I made this homemade potpourri with items from nature that I found in my yard, with the exception of the cedar shavings and cinnamon sticks. I sprinkled it with doTERRA OnGuard essential oil blend, which is a great antimicrobial oil for fighting germs. It looks like Fall and the oils contribute a homey, subtle aroma to the house.

Last year I said I was going to grow some clary sage. I did, but it had no aroma. I wasn't even sure if it was clary sage. It came back this year, early in spring. It is very potent this year. They say it should have a sweet, floral smell, but mine smells like human pheromones, musky and like mild body odor... and very sage-ish. I'm not sure what to do with it. I could dry it and make sage bundles for smudging, or use it for smoke medicine, but it is SO strong. Mine doesn't look exactly like this photo either, the leaves are bigger and like rough velvet. See my photo in the comments.

I am going to try to grow clary sage this year for the first time!

Clary sage essential oil is a type of essential oil extracted from the flowers and leaves of the clary sage plant (Salvia sclarea). It has a floral, herbal aroma and is used in aromatherapy and natural medicine for its various therapeutic properties. Here are some of the benefits and uses of clary sage essential oil:
๐Ÿ’šHormonal balance. Clary sage essential oil is known for its ability to balance hormones, particularly in women. It can help relieve symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), regulate menstrual cycles, and reduce symptoms of menopause.
๐Ÿ’šStress relief. Clary sage essential oil has a calming and relaxing effect on the mind and body, making it useful for reducing stress, anxiety, and depression.
๐Ÿ’šPain relief. Clary sage essential oil has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties that make it useful for relieving pain and inflammation, such as headaches, muscle aches, and menstrual cramps.
๐Ÿ’šSkin care. Floral oils are great for skin care! Clary sage essential oil is often used in skin care products for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It can help soothe skin irritations, reduce inflammation, and promote healthy-looking skin.
๐Ÿ’šRespiratory support: Clary sage essential oil can help support respiratory health and support respiratory issues such as asthma and bronchitis.

Dilute it! If you need to know how, get my Safety Sheet on the Resources tab on my website. And don't forget to consult with a healthcare professional before using clary sage essential oil for any medicinal purposes, especially if you are pregnant or have a medical condition.

Gonna be a hot summer!

Making a cooling spray with peppermint essential oil is simple and can be very refreshing.

Hereโ€™s a basic recipe for creating your own cooling spray:
Ingredients:
1 cup distilled water
2 tablespoons witch hazel or vodka (acts as a preservative and helps the oil disperse)
10-15 drops peppermint essential oil
A spray bottle
Instructions:
Pour the distilled water into the spray bottle.
Add Witch Hazel or Vodka to the bottle.
Add 10-15 drops of peppermint essential oil to the mixture. You can adjust the number of drops based on your preference for scent and cooling effect.
Shake the bottle well to combine all ingredients.
Label your bottle and store it in a cool, dark place. Shake the bottle before each use.
Spray on your skin (avoid eyes and sensitive areas) for a cooling effect.
Put it in the fridge for an extra cooling effect!

Peppermint can also soothe the "itchies".

Peppermint oil can be quite strong, so start with fewer drops if you have sensitive skin or are using the spray on children or seniors.

Lilac season is waning. Did you know there is no true lilac essential oil? I did use this lilac fragrance oil in my smell training, in the second level of aromas, instead of lavender, as the floral aroma. Because my client didn't care for lavender. I sure do love lilacs though.

Earthy essential oils like vetiver and patchouli possess grounding scents that evoke the essence of the forest floor or rich soil. Vetiver's deep, smoky aroma and patchouli's musky, sweet fragrance bring a sense of stability and rootedness to mind and body. Incorporating these oils into aromatherapy practices can cultivate a profound connection with nature, offering a tranquil sanctuary amidst the chaos of modern life.
