Like yoga, mindfully soaking up a forest’s sensory stimuli - the aroma of damp wood, the sound of crunching leaves, the feeling of plush moss, the gurgling of a stream - has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and blood pressure. Let's combine a vigorous hike and off-the-mat yoga to create 90 minutes of well-being for mind, body and soul. In 2021, we also offer 60-minute ZENwalks, a soothing saunter that decelerates stress and calms anxiety, while reigniting our senses and reconnecting to nature.

Often, I feel helpless in these budget-cutting, policy-changing times. Then I remember: it’s really a call to action to create a local community and find common ground.
Today, I stopped at Galena Creek Regional Park and talked to the program manager. Gabe Zurn told me about her efforts to put on a charity event to support their K-12 programming. For many local underserved kids, this is the only way they develop a loving relationship with the natural world.
The event is next weekend and only 17 people have signed up.
If you feel like me and want to make a difference, participate in your local events.
Rather than chilling on your couch, let’s create the world we want to live in and participate in meaningful local events.

I used to love going on a run - I always felt better.
I used to love to hike - esp. reaching my destination.
But did I really connect with the natural world?
Did I notice the birds, the dragonflies, the budding blossoms, the way the sun is reflected on the creek’s curls?
My relationship with the natural world changed once I started to slow down and notice. And I am so much richer for it.
