Topic: How We Learn to Express Emotion — and What Happens When We Don’t

We aren’t born knowing how to express emotion — we’re taught.
From childhood, every “Don’t cry,” “Man up,” or “You’re too sensitive” shapes the way we show (or hide) our feelings.

🧠 Expression starts with validation.
When our emotions are mirrored and named — “You look upset,” “I see you’re hurt,” — our nervous system learns: It’s safe to feel.
Without validation, the body still feels, but the mind learns to silence it. That silence turns into tension, shutdown, or depression.

🤐 Nonverbal learning is powerful.
We learn emotion not just through words but through tone, posture, facial expression, and energy.
If a home is emotionally numb, children learn to suppress.
If it’s chaotic, they learn to perform emotions or explode.
Either way, the message becomes: feeling = danger.

💤 Are we functioning — or just performing function?
Many of us have learned to function in depression — to wake up, work, smile, and survive while our spirit is still grieving.
That’s called environmentally induced depression — when constant stress, unsafe systems, or unhealthy environments make sadness a survival skill.

When we normalize high-functioning depression, we mistake coping for healing.
But healing starts when we pause, name what we feel, and allow emotion to exist without shame.

✨ The goal isn’t to control emotion — it’s to understand it.
When we validate our inner world, we teach our body and spirit that we are safe, whole, and worthy of peace.

In Adult class we talked about……. ROOTWORK LESSON DROP: UNDERSTANDING YOUR EMOTIONS 🌿

Mind | Body | Spirit

We talk about healing — but do we talk about feeling?
Every emotion you experience is part of an ancient system built to protect and teach you.
There are five base emotions that sit at the root of every human reaction:
🔥 Anger
💧 Sadness
🌬 Fear
🌱 Disgust
☀️ Happiness

Each emotion has a message:
• Anger sets boundaries and fights injustice.
• Sadness teaches release.
• Fear sharpens awareness.
• Disgust preserves integrity.
• Happiness connects and creates.

When we ignore emotions, they don’t disappear — they transform. Anger becomes resentment. Sadness becomes depression. Fear becomes control.

🧠 DID YOU KNOW?
• Up to 1 in 3 people say anger negatively impacts their physical health (Mental Health Foundation, UK).
• 64% of violent crimes are linked to uncontrolled emotional reactivity, most commonly anger and fear (National Institute of Justice).
• Unprocessed anger increases the risk of heart disease, addiction relapse, and relationship breakdown by over 30% in longitudinal studies (APA, 2023).

💭 Root Reflection

Ask yourself today:
“What emotion am I least comfortable feeling… and what might it be trying to teach me?”

Healing doesn’t mean you stop feeling. It means you learn to feel without losing yourself.

🚨 ALARMING TREND AMONG OUR YOUTH 🚨

Every single young person in today’s group—100%—said they can’t sleep or eat without ma*****na.
Adults how any of you feel the same ?

Let that sink in.
Our youth aren’t getting high for fun anymore… they’re using w**d to function.
To quiet their thoughts.
To feel hungry.
To fall asleep.
To stop feeling too much.

This isn’t rebellion—it’s regulation.
They’re medicating trauma, anxiety, and exhaustion because they’ve never been taught how to rest without sedation. Their nervous systems are in survival mode, and the only thing that brings relief is the one thing slowly teaching their bodies to forget how to self-soothe.

When every child says, “I can’t sleep without it,” that’s not a drug problem—that’s a community crisis.
We must rebuild systems of safety, grounding, and nourishment.
We must teach our children what peace feels like without a substance.

This isn’t about judgment—it’s a wake-up call.

Recovery is for everyone who has experienced Loss!! Which means we are all recovering from something…

October sits at the crossroads — a season of harvest and release. The air cools, the leaves let go, and nature shows us what surrender can look like when done with grace. October represents balance: it’s the month to gather the lessons you’ve EARNED this year while shedding what no longer serves you.

Spiritually, it’s a mirror of transformation. What you planted in spring (new habits, intentions, or faith) now bears fruit. And what’s dying off—old patterns, toxic people, harmful thoughts—deserves a proper goodbye.

“October teaches that letting go is part of growing.”
Just like the trees don’t cling to their leaves, we can release what’s draining us—one thought, one behavior, one excuse at a time.

It’s REAPING SEASON ….. but only what you have sowed ……. Life’s duality teaches us whatever you have been watering will determine your harvest . Good or Bad ….

Contrary to popular belief, I’d like to suggest that the biblical stories proclaimed as visions or revelations would, in modern times, lead individuals to be diagnosed with schizophrenia or told they are experiencing audio and visual hallucinations. Why is this ??

1. Historical & Cultural Context

In the ancient world, visions, voices, and dreams were widely understood as legitimate ways the divine communicated. Prophets in the Bible (Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Daniel, John of Patmos, etc.) described vivid imagery, auditory messages, and encounters with angels or God. These experiences were not automatically dismissed—they were revered because culture assumed the divine realm and human realm could overlap.

By contrast, in modern Western medicine, the same experiences are often filtered through a clinical lens. If someone today reports “hearing voices,” psychiatry is likely to consider conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder with psychotic features, or trauma-related hallucinations. The dominant worldview has shifted: what was once interpreted as revelation is now interpreted as pathology. The rest is in the comments👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾

Total Lunar Eclipse (“Blood Moon”) Sunday, September 7, 2025
In African spiritual systems, an eclipse is a time of transition, concealment, and revelation. The sun and moon cross paths, breaking their normal harmony. Spiritually, this pause in the natural order calls us to look inward, reflect, and reset.

Meaning of Eclipse Energy
• Disruption of Light: The balance of day and night is interrupted. This is not a good time for big rituals or new beginnings.
• Shadow & Truths: Hidden parts of ourselves may surface, giving us a chance for deep reflection.
• Transformation: Just as the sun or moon reappears, eclipses signal endings that prepare the way for new beginnings.

Orisha Connected to Eclipse Energy
• Òṣùpá (Moon Spirit): Represents cycles, intuition, and hidden wisdom.
• Òrúnmìlà (Wisdom & Divination): Guides us when energy feels uncertain.
• Èṣù (Crossroads Messenger): Governs change, choices, and unexpected turns.
• Oṣùnyìn (Healing Spirit): Linked with cleansing, herbs, and rest during this time

Teachings About Eclipses
• Stay indoors, pray, and reflect instead of outward activity.
• Destiny is “paused,” so avoid rash decisions.
• Remember: darkness is temporary, and light always returns.
