Sierra Gehrer, a Speech Pathologist at Mid Kansas Ear, Nose, & Throat Associates and Team Captain of Team Lary was asked why Team Lary was created! This is what she said...

"Team Lary was created to honor and celebrate individuals who have gone through a laryngectomy - a procedure to remove the larynx (voice box) due to cancer, trauma, or damage. Our team's members are made up of laryngectomee cancer survivors as well as their families, friends, and medical care team. Because the larynx and vocal folds are removed in a laryngectomy, life after a laryngectomy involves finding a new mode of communication. Regardless of the modality, everyone deserves a voice. However, the journey to finding a new voice comes with its own set of challenges and difficulties. We created Team Lary in remembrance of our lary friends who are no longer with us and to recognize the journey for those who continue to walk alongside us. We are thankful to Victory in the Valley for hosting this event and eager to honor and celebrate our members' survivorship and new voices."

Stefanie grew up in Wichita and loves making it her home. In her free time, she cherishes spoiling her nieces and nephews. We're elated to have her here!
