The Winter Solstice on Dec. 21 marks the return of more hours of daylight, offering hope for those affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Reduced daylight can impact mood and energy, but our Manager of Integrated Care, Tatiana Munoz Vargas, suggests spending time outdoors, light therapy, or treatments such as CBT or Vitamin D (with a doctor’s guidance) can help. The return of more daylight can improve mood and overall wellbeing — hopeful news for the season ahead!

We had a great time celebrating together at our recent all-staff meeting and holiday party. The event was filled with great fun, good food, and moments that truly showcased the heart of our Hunter Health family. And we had some of the best-looking Human Christmas Trees ever! Here’s a slide show of the event:

Susan, one of our amazing nurse practitioners, and her mother have been busy spreading holiday cheer — one stitch at a time! 🎁🧵 They hand-crocheted these adorable animals and Pokémon friends to brighten the day of kids visiting our lab for a checkup this holiday season.

A little comfort, a little joy, and a whole lot of heart. Happy Holidays!

Meet our new team member, Blake Gollhofer:

Who Am I? -- I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. I come from a family of eight, where I am the second-oldest child out of six. I went to Benedictine College in Atchison, KS, for my undergrad degree in Biochem, and then went to Texas A&M University Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy for my PharmD degree.

Healthcare Specialty -- Pharmacist

Experience -- I graduated as a pharmacist in 2023 and moved to Kansas City where I worked with CVS as a staff pharmacist for nine months, then moved to Wichita in May of 2024, where I continued with CVS for the past year and a half.

Why Hunter Health? -- I came to Hunter Health because I wanted to be a part of an organization that provides care for those who cannot always receive it. Through the interview process, I found that Hunter Health truly cares for every patient that comes through the doors and also cares for the providers.

We are proud to share that Hunter Health is one of six organizations selected to receive grant funding to support residents in Sedgwick County affected by groundwater contamination. Special thanks to Tara Nolen, Director of Population Health, who has been championing Hunter Health’s involvement in the project through the writing of the grant proposal and representing our clinic through a collaborative effort to address this issue affecting our community.
