Once upon a snow day in 2012, I chanced upon a Craigslist listing for a lathe. I always enjoyed messing around on my Dad's Shopsmith Lathe as a kid and thought that a midi lathe would be a great addition to my shop. I started messing around and thought I would try my hand at baton handles. I gave the first two away, posted a photo in the good old Facebook and began receiving requests for custom ba
tons. I have been a high school band director for the past 30 years and I know what directors like in a baton. 1) Balance... it has to feel great in your hand. 2) Durability.... nothing is more irritating than replacing a baton that you just bought because you "flicked" a bit too hard and it breaks. Hence, the repeat customers that I get are because they become collectors of sorts and just enjoy a fine baton. 3) Variety. Endless variety.
