Partnership for a Healthier America

Partnership for a Healthier America Founded alongside Former First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! campaign in 2010, PHA is working towards a healthier America powered by good food for all.

In 2010, PHA was created in conjunction with but independent from First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! effort and is led by some of the nation's most respected health and childhood obesity advocates. Supporting our efforts is our honorary chair First Lady Michelle Obama and our board of directors, which also includes nationally recognized business leaders, advocates, health professionals, and thought leaders from a variety of backgrounds.

At PHA we’re working with communities across the country to build healthier food systems. In our latest blog, we break down how and share two examples from our work in Indianapolis and the Mississippi Delta in partnership with the Global Food Institute at The George Washington University, DC Central Kitchen, Instacart and the Patrick J McGovern Foundation.

This World Health Day, and every day, we’re committed to expanding access to nutritious, affordable food in every zip code, so everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

As we answer the call to “Stand with science,” we recognize that data, research, and collaboration are key to shaping a healthier future for all.

New insights on the 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines are here, and they’re worth a closer look.

Our Manager of Nutrition and Health Programs, Amy Warne, MBA, RD/LD, unpacks what the new DGAs get right — like prioritizing real food, hydration, and produce — and where important questions remain around transparency, scientific consistency, and equity.

For nutrition professionals, good food advocates, and lifelong learners alike, this is a timely perspective on how policy, science, and access intersect, and what it means for the future of public health.

When Wendy Foster lost her SNAP benefits during last year’s government shutdown, putting food on the table became a daily challenge.

To help, we partnered with Southern Poverty Law Center, Delta Health Center and Quitman County Development to launch a rapid response Good Food at Home program in the Mississippi Delta. From January - March, we distributed 540 boxes of fresh produce to local families.

Happy National Agriculture Day! 🌱

Today we’re celebrating the farmers, growers, and agricultural workers who keep our food system moving and our communities nourished.

The work that they do makes it possible for all of us to access fresh, healthy food every day. 💚

PHA’s Manager of Nutrition & Health Programs, Amy Warne, MBA, RD/LD, was at the State Capitol in Oklahoma City for Anti-Hunger Day, standing alongside partners and advocates committed to expanding food access across the state.

Hosted by Hunger Free Oklahoma, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, and the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, the day brought together leaders from across Oklahoma to champion food equity and ensure every family has access to nutritious food.

“We believe that having greater access to affordable fresh fruits and vegetables will result in a direct correction of improved health outcomes.”
-Pastor Thaddeus Williams, Tulane M.B. Church

With more than 120 years of service, Tulane M.B. Church remains deeply committed to social and economic progress for all. Located in Hinds County, where access to fresh food and reliable transportation is limited, the church has long addressed food insecurity through its pantry. They previously served 120 families weekly and distributed thousands of pounds of free food over the years.
With support from the GROW grant, Tulane expanded its impact, increasing pantry capacity to serve over 250 families each week. GROW funding supported the continued operations of the church’s food pantry by aiding in the purchase of fresh, nutritious foods, strengthening delivery systems, and establishing a community garden on church grounds.
Now, through a “sweat equity” garden program, local residents can actively participate while gaining hands-on gardening education. GROW’s investment empowers trusted community institutions like Tulane M.B. Church to improve health outcomes through strategic, sustainable approaches that address food access rooted in local foodways.

Partnership drives impact, and our collaboration with Happy Family Brands is a powerful example of that in action.

Together, we’re advancing our GROW initiative to support local farmers and food entrepreneurs across the Mississippi Delta through investing in community-led solutions and leaders like Robbie Pollard of the Happy Foods Project. By combining resources and shared commitment, we’re strengthening regional food systems and expanding access to fresh, healthy food in communities that deserve it most.

Enjoy the photos below, where the PHA team had the opportunity to visit Robbie (pictured far right) and his farm to see this work in action.
