🎄 The holidays can be joyful—but they can also be some of the hardest days of the year for those struggling with addiction or mental health challenges.

Expectations to “be merry” can create stress, trigger old habits, and make loneliness or grief feel heavier. Recovery doesn’t pause for the holidays, and neither does the need for support.

Tips for staying strong this season include:
▪️Stick to your routine as much as possible
▪️Prioritize self-care: sleep, nutrition, exercise
▪️Set healthy boundaries and reasonable expectations
▪️Reach out to supportive friends, family, or professionals if you need help

Remember, you don’t have to navigate this season alone. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. 💙

The holiday season can be full of joy… but also obligations, traditions, and expectations that sometimes leave us feeling stretched thin.

Carla Hansen offers a simple, helpful reminder: ask yourself “What’s my motivation?” before saying yes to something—or before feeling pressured to do it. Pair that with moderation, and you give yourself the space to make thoughtful choices rather than just checking boxes.

This holiday season, let’s give ourselves permission to pause, reflect, and choose what truly matters to us and to those we care about.

Wishing everyone a season of intention, balance, and meaningful connection.

With the holiday season upon us, gathering with loved ones can bring joy—and the occasional challenging conversation. Staying connected is essential for creating peace, strengthening relationships, and nurturing a supportive community. When we honor boundaries, seek common ground, and approach others with empathy, we make space for understanding to shine.

Here are a few ways to keep connections strong throughout the holidays, even when perspectives differ. 🎄❤️

This holiday season, we want to remind you of something deeply important in recovery: it’s okay to say no.

Many of us feel the urge to give all our time, energy, and love to the people in our lives. But recovery teaches us the power of boundaries - the ability to pause, check in with ourselves, and ask:

What do I need? Who am I in this moment? What do the holidays truly mean to me?

Sometimes the answer means saying no to certain gatherings, obligations, or expectations we’ve carried for years. And in that space, something beautiful can happen: we begin creating holiday traditions that support our healing, honor our growth, and reflect who we are becoming.

💛 Our hope for you this holiday season:
That you create a tradition that is uniquely yours, one that respects your boundaries, nurtures your recovery, and brings you genuine peace. And if that means saying no, know that it’s not only acceptable… it’s healthy.

You deserve a season that supports your wellbeing. Meadows is here with you on that journey. 🎄✨

At The Rio Retreat Center’s Survivors Workshop, one of the greatest gifts of this work is witnessing the profound shifts that can happen in just one week. Many participants arrive feeling activated by something current in their lives, often connected to old wounds or past experiences that still shape how they respond today.

Through guided healing work, participants begin to reconnect with those early childhood wounds in a safe and supportive environment. As they do, something powerful emerges: the ability to live more in action rather than reaction. They start responding to life from the present moment, not from old pain.

Watching these transformations unfold is truly a privilege. If you’re ready to explore your own healing in a compassionate, structured, and deeply supportive setting, our Survivors Workshop may be the next step on your journey. 💛

“Only 1 in 10 people who need addiction treatment actually receive it.”
That staggering fact is at the heart of Jaime Vinck’s powerful new conversation recently on ABC15 Sonoran Living.

Jaime breaks down why so many people delay or avoid getting help—fear, stigma, uncertainty, family responsibilities—and how her new book aims to support the other nine who aren’t yet accessing treatment.

She offers clarity on:
✨ What addiction treatment really looks like
✨ How to navigate fears around work, family, and the unknown
✨ The wide range of options available today, from virtual to outpatient to residential
✨ The essential role families play (and how they can care for themselves, too)
✨ Why hope is real: people are recovering every single day

Whether you’re concerned about your own relationship with substances or love someone who’s struggling, Jaime’s insight is practical, compassionate, and deeply needed.

💬 “If our loved one had cancer, we wouldn’t believe we could fix it ourselves. Addiction is no different.” — Jaime Vinck

This is a must-watch conversation on breaking stigma, understanding treatment, and finding a path forward.

👉 Watch the segment and share with someone who may need it.
Hope and help are available, every day.

Erie Hebert explains how military training pushes the brain’s fight-or-flight response to the limit, often dulling mindfulness and emotional connection.

At The Meadows, we provide specialized treatment for service members and their spouses, using trauma-focused modalities, neurofeedback, and psychiatric care, to support full neurological and emotional recovery.

We’re so proud of Abby Jones, who appeared live on air this week to break down what really happens in our brains during the holiday shopping rush.

She explained how retailers tap into urgency and scarcity—creating those “act now!” dopamine hits that can lead many people to overspend. (In fact, 90% of Americans report spending about $3,000 more than intended during the holidays!)

Abby offered simple, grounding strategies to slow down and shop mindfully:
✨ Pause before you purchase
✨ Use a 24-hour rule
✨ Remove saved cards from your phone to reduce impulse spending
✨ Limit open tabs
✨ Notice why you’re shopping—are you coping or avoiding?
✨ Practice gratitude for what you already have

And her favorite reminder:
💛 “The reason for the season is connection, not consumption.”

Abby also shared how Meadows Behavioral Healthcare supports people nationwide who may be struggling with the deeper emotional patterns, like shame and scarcity, that fuel overconsumption.

We’re grateful for her expertise and the light she brings to conversations about mental and emotional wellness this time of year.
