I am grateful to be included in this art exhibition sponsored by the Lake Cumberland Diversity Collective at Somerset Community College.

My work entitled “An Unfinished Life” is in remembrance of all the lives of both children and young adults that ended too soon at the hands of abuse, neglect, and violence. 🕊️🕊️🙏🏼🕊️🕊️

Thanks again to the amazing artists who participated in this class. I am impressed at how they picked up the challenge of drawing their calla lilies while focusing on the intention of releasing worry, fear, and anxiety.

The Art of Calm: Drawing From Within

Discover the calming, transformative power of intentional art. In this class, you'll learn a simple yet profound drawing technique that blends creativity with mindful focus to help you release stress, shift old patterns, and open space for new possibilities.

Using neurographic-based techniques with flowing lines, shapes, and color, you'll create a personal piece of art that reflects your inner journey and supports the reality you want to live. No artistic experience is needed-just an open mind and a willingness to explore.

In April we allow ourselves to release fear, worry, and anxiety and place our focus on renewal, hope, new beginnings, and divine blessings by drawing Calla Lilies using the intentional release and replace process.

Next class: April 1, 2026

And quite often the people who tell you to "get over it" are the same ones that caused the harm. In my case, it was my older brother who molested me when I was 11. When I finally confronted him two years ago, that was his response, "Get over it."

Funny how the loudest voices telling you to “get over it” were never the ones who helped you carry it.

They weren’t there in the aftermath. They weren’t there when you were shaking, spiralling, trying to make sense of what was happening in that house. They didn’t sit with you after the blow-ups, the silent treatments, the humiliation, the guilt trips that made you feel like a monster for having normal needs. They didn’t step in when you were a child and it was obvious you weren’t safe emotionally. They just turned up later, once it was inconvenient to hear about it and demanded you move on for the sake of everyone else’s comfort.

“Get over it” is what people say when they want the topic gone, not the pain healed. It’s a clean little sentence that lets them opt out without admitting they’re opting out. It’s the same energy as “that’s still your mum” and “she did her best” and “don’t hold grudges”. It’s not guidance. It’s dismissal. It’s them protecting the image, protecting the peace, protecting themselves from having to acknowledge what they watched and ignored.

It also puts the responsibility right back on you. As if the only issue is your reaction, not what caused it. As if you’re being dramatic for still feeling the impact of years of emotional abuse and neglect. As if a lifetime of being controlled, minimised and made to doubt your own reality is something you should be able to shake off because someone else is bored of hearing about it.

It’s like being shoved into the ocean, left to swallow water alone, then being judged for not being dry fast enough. No towel offered. No hand pulled you out. Just criticism for still being wet. That’s what “get over it” is. A demand for a result without offering any support, repair, or accountability.

So notice who says it. Notice who gets irritated by your healing. Notice who only wants you “better” when better means quieter, more convenient, less honest. The people who genuinely care don’t rush your process. They don’t shame you for still having a wound. They don’t pressure you to forgive or forget so they can feel comfortable.

If the same people who told you to get over it never helped you through it, their opinion is irrelevant. They don’t get to rush a healing process they never supported.

These past few years have been a time of accelerated inner child healing for me. I started this journey many years ago and experienced multiple inner child healing sessions, but none as profound as I am growing through now.

Are you familiar with the concept of an inner child? You'll recognize when your inner child is showing up because you feel like something in you is off - you say, do, or feel something super uncomfortable after a typical and/or random interaction and you can't quite put your finger on what feels weird about your response. Mind you, the focus isn't on the other person - it's on your response to what happened.

For example, there are times when I have interactions with people who trigger a behavior in me that is out of character to the person I know myself to be at my current age. There can be a subtle or not-so-subtle feeling in response to the trigger. When you begin to see this occurring, you'll recognize that there is a part of you that's been hidden that is asking for your attention. She or he is saying "Hi, I'm here! I could use some help here!" Then you know it's time to dig deep" to find and heal the root cause.

Last week I recognized that at times I show up to gatherings and become overly excited and "Chatty Carol" shows up. It annoyed me when that happened because I would sometimes talk too much, ask too many questions, try too hard, or exhibit some other behavior not in alignment with my adult self. This can be incredibly frustrating for those of us working hard to heal ourselves.

So one afternoon after a mental review of an experience I had the evening before, I sat down and just felt into what happened. It wasn't long before I was in tears. I discovered the circumstances around what caused Chatty Carol to be invisible 85% of the time, then show up suddenly at the most inopportune times. It was a traumatic experience I had at the age of 12.

I used my healing tools to process the memory and integrate little Carol into my adult self in a gentle and loving way, whereas in the past after I would have berated myself (we can be our own worst critics, often taking over when our parents or teachers left off).

I would typically follow the self-criticism with some way of checking out - maybe overeating nuts or crackers, losing myself scrolling on Facebook, or some other non-productive reaction.

The good news is that it didn't take several sessions to release and reintegrate my inner child. I was able to do this easily because I was finally willing to let go. Sometimes we hold on to those parts of us because we don't know who we might be without them. Our minds like what's familiar even if it's not good for us. Sometimes we can't or don't want to give up the escapist behavioral pattern.

The next couple of gatherings I attended, I paid close attention to my interactions and listened to see whether Chatty Carol would show up. She was barely there! I was calm. I listened. I thought before I spoke. I quieted the chatter in my head, my heart, my sacral center, solar plexus, and root chakras. I felt safe.

I also felt a huge relief knowing I that I can be fully present and be okay with being imperfect. The self-judgment around this is gone. The result is another degree of inner freedom!

If you recognize that you have one or more inner children calling for healing, DM me - I offer a free 20-minute consultation. https://carollucia.as.me/Free20minClarityCall
