Happy Wilmington Women’s Tea Walk Day! ☕️ Finally got to take my colonial dress out for a public event 🥲 The event was to commemorate the same walk that took place 250 years ago where a bunch of women burned their tea to protest the government and tax policies.

Today we shared tea, biscuits, and comrade with ladies looking to preserve the triumphs of those who came before us to raise their voices in whatever ways they could. Because our nation was founded on the people’s representation, democracy and no kings!

I had a great time re-enacting and displaying my ancestral Carmichael tartan. I hope the ancestors on both sides are proud. And yes, of course Rupert escorted me around. He still doesn’t get why we love things like this buuuut he does appreciate the propriety of 18th century wear. While he did dress appropriately for the event (dashing!) don’t expect to see him in his red coat any time soon. He’s been away from active service for a looooong time.

Wondering who is the Fox Squirrel is in my recent videos? Meet Phillip! Phillip represents is our North Carolina state squirrel and has become my favorite kind of squirrel. They’re larger than most other native squirrels, generally calmer, and can only be found on this side of the state in places like . It’s fitting that Phillip is their mascot 😊 Now he hangs out in the van with me and my little nest of treasures from all over the country from my travels. Also pictured is the first alligator I’ve seen this season! The sun came out and so did the gators! I love these guys. The ecosystem is beautifully unique and I’m grateful to be able to visited natural habitats where I can appreciate the local wild life 🐊

The 250th events continue! This past weekend we found ourselves out at for a spectacular event and re-enactment! For any of you and fans this battle was featured in the show and is historically noted as the last charge of the broadswords. They fought valiantly but were outmatched by the Patriot defending . This was a significant win for the colony and would later fuel NC being the first colony to officially succeed from British rule.

As for me? I unexpectedly connected with a Scottish ancestor 😅 More on that as I continue to research and figure it out.

And for anyone asking, What did Rupert think? He wasn’t there. By choice. He lived this. He isn’t a fan of battle-replays. And he hates fifes and drums. I found out that for troops, music was the primary way to communicate basic orders like when to rest, wake up, charge, retreat etc. I only just found this out too!! Up until this weekend I just figured he didn’t like that style of music. Turns out, it’s just an unpleasant memory he doesn’t like repeating. Totally understandable! I continue to learn more and get history validations the more I look!

We met up with many of our favorite local historians, authors, historic places and more. Even went back a few days later to explore in the sun. It was a HUGE event and the park service really pulled out all the stops!

Today was the last day of my 5 week ALFA Courses Series with 🙏🏻 I had the most lovely time hosting discussion with some wonderful senior women. Over the weeks we spoke of what it meant to have Peace in Transition. It was a space where we could speak plainly on the reality all of us face with both taking care of loved one’s arrangements as well as what it means to mentally prepare for that time for ourselves. I learned a lot and gained some timeless perspective. Thank you, ladies!
