“The Four F’s of Family Engagement: Family, Food, Fun, and Free” – Author and Pennsylvania public educator Andrea Bitner will help union educators engage with families in this one-hour session. Participants will look at examples of family engagement from around the country, discuss community resources, and explore ways to better determine the needs of families in your district. Educators will walk away with tools and ideas to implement immediately.

“The Five Pitfalls” – Smyrna Paraprofessional April McElrath and Lake Forest food service worker Amanda Meades will cover the five pitfalls that most commonly challenge the well-being of educators, as well as strategies for how to handle them when they arise. Participants will be encouraged to discuss their experiences with these challenges and offer suggestions for how to manage these common stressors.

Please consider picking up an extra item or two on your shopping trips.

Thousands of students in Delaware experience homelessness each year.

And that, in turn, creates a number of secondary barriers to their success, from food insecurity to stress and anxiety over their lack of access to basic household items.

That is why college students in our union’s Aspiring Educators program have launched a collection drive for toiletry items that will be delivered to students experiencing homelessness prior to the start of the 2026-2027 school year.

If you are able, please consider donating shampoo and conditioner, toothbrushes, deodorant, body wash, soap, socks and other items to this worthwhile cause.

Several drop-off locations are available, including the Education and Humanities Building at Delaware State University, Delaware Tech’s George Campus in Wilmington, or DSEA’s offices in Dover and Newark.
