Heather's Hope Diabetes Foundation

Heather's Hope raises money to help serve the medical needs of Clinton County's diabetic patients. Heather’s Hope holds at least four events annually.

Heather’s Hope is a non-profit diabetes organization founded in 2010 by friends and family of Heather James. Heather, daughter of Richard and Gretchen James, was a 2003 graduate of Wilmington High School. In 2008, she sadly passed away from complications with Type-1 Diabetes. Heather was a beautiful young woman with an infectious laugh and limitless hopes and dreams. Our “screwball” tournament, a mixed-up game of softball, is held in mid-May around Heather’s birthday. All proceeds from this tournament benefit the American Diabetes Association’s Camp Korelitz, a week-long residential camp for children with diabetes held at Camp Joy. Heather’s Hope also organizes the Banana Split Festival 5K, a cornhole tournament in August at MacD’s Pub in Wilmington, and a fall harvest party around the date of Heather’s passing. The proceeds of these three fundraisers benefit the Clinton County Health Department (CCHD). The CCHD then uses our funds to assist with diabetes medication and supply costs for individuals who are un/underinsured or those who are awaiting approval for other types of programs.

Well, March Madness may not be over yet, but our pool is. Nobody has a single team left for the final 2 rounds. I love all the underdogs winning - that's what makes this so fun!

Whew! What a weekend of basketball! It's a great time to root for the underdog!

Here are the leaders in our pool after the first 2 rounds:

3 (tied)- Owen Armstrong and Bobby Ahlers(2)

I'd say it's still anybody's game, but my 8 year old's bracket is completely a bust - but that's probably because he choose 15-seed Colgate to win it all because he likes their toothpaste! 🤣🤣

2023 March Madness Pool is LIVE!!

It’s quick and easy to join, and you’ll be supporting a great cause.

How to enter:
- Click on the PayPal link below:

o Entry fee is $10 per bracket
o Each participant is allowed up to 10 brackets per
email address
- Once your entry fee is received you will be sent a link to join our private group on CBSSports.com
- Once the tournament field is selected on March 12th, complete your bracket(s) before the First Round tips on March 16th (exclude play-in games)
Fine Print:
- All scoring is standard scoring based on CBSSports.com rules
- If the group maximum is exceeded on the website, additional groups will be created
o If there are multiple groups, the winners will be
the higher scores from all groups combined
- Winner Payouts:
o 1st Place: 25% of total pool
o 2nd Place: 15%
o 3rd Place: 10%
o Heather’s Hope and those we help: 50%

Who's ready for March Madness?

We may have been quiet online in the recent past, but thanks to amazing, consistent donors we have been able to fulfill our commitment to the Clinton County Health District. The relationships and momentum that we've built throughout the past 13 years has carried us through the challenges of the past few, and we can't thank you enough for your generosity, which has allowed us to continue to serve those in need throughout Clinton County!

Now, we are back and ready to kick off this year with our March Madness Bracket Pool and excited for you to join us!

As I’m sure most of you have already assumed, our Lickety-Split 5K this coming Saturday has been canceled due to the Banana Split Festival’s cancelation amid COVID-19 concerns. As always, thank you for your continued support of Heather’s Hope and we look forward to seeing you at next year’s event! 💜
