Please meet Yolanda Coefield, RN, our March Gold Star of Patient Care Award winner!

Yolanda is with our Telemetry unit, and a grateful patient shared this about her: “Yolanda was my nurse during my hospital stay for 3 days. She listened to me about my needs; she was very accommodating and attentive. It was clearly a standard to involve the patient during shift change. It was really nice to get to be a part of handover for continuity of care.”

We take great pride in recognizing team members who make a lasting impact on our patients’ experiences. Every smile, conversation and act of kindness contributes to the experience that our patients have while in our care. Our monthly Gold Star Patient Care Award is a special honor, chosen based on direct patient feedback from our returned surveys, Google reviews or patient testimonials.

This award highlights those individuals who go above and beyond, demonstrating compassion, exceptional care and a commitment to creating a positive experience for every patient.

Know the Signs of DVT — Advanced Care Close to Home!

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot forms in a deep vein, most often in the legs. Symptoms may include swelling, pain, warmth, or redness in the leg. The greatest risk is when part of the clot breaks off and travels to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism — a life-threatening emergency that requires immediate treatment.

At Wilson Medical Center, our Cardiovascular Service Line provides advanced treatment options, including minimally invasive thrombectomy procedures. A thrombectomy allows our specialists to remove the clot directly from the vein, restoring blood flow and helping prevent serious complications. For many patients, this approach can relieve symptoms quickly and reduce long-term damage to the veins.

Providing this level of specialized care locally means patients in our community can receive timely, lifesaving treatment close to home.

Our cardiovascular team rapidly evaluates each patient and determines the best course of care—whether that includes medication, monitoring, or advanced clot-removal procedures.

Know the symptoms of DVT:
• Swelling in one leg
• Pain or tenderness in the calf or thigh
• Warmth or redness of the skin
• Leg heaviness or fatigue

If you experience these symptoms—especially after surgery, illness, long travel, or prolonged immobility—seek medical care right away.
