Feeling Like Something’s Always in Your Throat?

You might be experiencing post-nasal drip. It’s when extra mucus from your sinuses trickles down your throat, causing that constant throat clearing or tickle.

You might notice:

🔹A lingering tickle that makes you want to cough or clear your throat constantly

🔹Feeling like mucus is stuck at the back of your throat

🔹A scratchy or sore throat that just won’t go away

🔹Trouble swallowing comfortably

🔹A cough that’s worse at night or in the morning

Post-nasal drip can come from allergies, sinus infections, colds, or even changes in the weather.

✅ Don’t just suffer in silence. A quick evaluation can help identify the cause and get you relief fast.

Struggling to breathe through your nose? VivAer may help!

Nasal obstruction isn’t always caused by allergies or a deviated septum. For many people, the problem is a collapsed or weakened nasal valve, which can make breathing through your nose difficult—especially during sleep or exercise.

✨ VivAer® is a quick, non-surgical in-office treatment that helps improve airflow by gently remodeling the nasal valve using controlled radiofrequency energy.

Benefits of VivAer:
• Performed right in the office
• No cutting or incisions
• Minimal downtime
• Most treatments take about 15–20 minutes
• Many patients notice improved nasal breathing

If you constantly feel stuffy, congested, or rely on nasal strips to breathe better, VivAer might be a great option.

📞 Contact our office to schedule an evaluation and see if VivAer is right for you!

What Are Adenoids?

Adenoids are small lumps of tissue located at the back of the nose, near the roof of the mouth. They are part of the immune system and help your body fight infections, especially in children.

How Adenoids Affect Us:

Normal Function: Adenoids trap germs (bacteria and viruses) that enter through the nose or mouth, helping prevent infections.

Enlarged Adenoids: Sometimes adenoids become swollen due to infections or allergies. This can lead to:
👃Difficulty breathing through the nose
👄Mouth breathing
😴Snoring or sleep problems
👂Recurrent ear infections
👧Changes in speech or dental development in children

Treatment:
Mild cases may just need monitoring.

Persistent problems or significant obstruction might require surgical removal, called an adenoidectomy.

💡 Tip: Adenoid issues are most common in children but usually shrink naturally as kids grow.

🌬️🌳 Windy days = allergy flares! 🤧

When the wind picks up, tree pollen, dust, and allergens get spread far and wide — which can trigger sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes, and sinus pressure.

Ways to protect yourself on high-pollen, windy days:
• 👃Saline nasal rinses to flush out pollen and allergens
• 💊 Daily antihistamines to keep symptoms in check
• 💨Keep windows closed when possible
• 🚿 Shower and change clothes after being outdoors

💡 Pro tip: Use distilled, sterile, or previously boiled water with your NeilMed squeeze bottle for safe and effective nasal irrigation.

Stay ahead of the pollen — your sinuses will thank you! ✨

Did you know? 💙 March is Medullary Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month.

Why awareness matters:
• It’s rare, so symptoms can be easily overlooked.
• Early detection improves outcomes.
• Genetic testing can be important for families.
• Calcitonin blood levels help with monitoring.

Raising awareness supports patients, families, and research. If you notice persistent neck lumps or voice changes, get evaluated early!

March is Medullary Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month. is different from other types of cancers (which are derived from thyroid follicular cells – the cells that make thyroid hormone), because it originates from the parafollicular C cells (also called “C cells”) of the thyroid gland. These cells do not produce thyroid hormone; instead, they produce a different hormone called calcitonin.

The ATA® offers thyroid brochures for patients, medical professionals, and the general public on a variety of thyroid conditions. Educate yourself and learn more about Medullary Thyroid Cancer https://ow.ly/M83050Ykw9O

🌳🤧 Tree pollens are in full force… ACHHHOU! 🤧🌳

Oak, elm, and cedar pollens are everywhere — and waiting until symptoms hit is too late.

💊 Stay Ahead with a Daily Antihistamine

Taking a daily antihistamine can help reduce sneezing, itchy/watery eyes, congestion, and scratchy throat. Common options include:
Cetirizine (Zyrtec), Loratadine (Claritin), Fexofenadine (Allegra), Levocetirizine (Xyzal)

Consistency is key — start before symptoms flare to stay ahead of pollen.

If daily meds aren’t enough, allergy testing can help pinpoint triggers and guide treatment.

Don’t let tree pollen win this spring — stay proactive and breathe easier! 🌼

🌷Allergies and Air Purifiers: Breathe Easier This Season! 🌷

Springtime allergies can make life miserable, but air purifiers can be a simple way to reduce symptoms indoors.

How Air Purifiers Help

✅ Trap airborne pollen, dust, and pet dander before you breathe them in
✅ Reduce irritants that trigger sneezing, itchy eyes, and congestion
✅ Improve overall air quality, especially in bedrooms and living areas

Tips for Choosing & Using an Air Purifier

• Look for HEPA filters — they capture tiny pollen and dust particles
• Run it continuously in high-use rooms, like bedrooms or living rooms
• Keep doors and windows closed during high pollen days for best results
• Replace filters on schedule — a dirty filter won’t help!

💡 Extra Tips to Maximize Relief
• Combine with daily allergy meds if recommended
• Wash bedding weekly in hot water
• Shower and change clothes after outdoor activities

🌳 Oak Pollen Season Is Here, Texas! 🌳

If you’ve noticed more sneezing, itchy eyes, or congestion lately, oak pollen may be the culprit. In areas like the Hill Country, oak trees release large amounts of pollen in late winter and spring — and it can travel miles on windy days.

🌿 Common Symptoms:
• Sneezing
• Runny or stuffy nose
• Itchy, watery eyes
• Post-nasal drip
• Cough or throat clearing
• Worsening asthma symptoms

🌬 Why Is Oak Pollen So Intense?

Oak trees produce a lot of lightweight pollen — and when the wind picks up, it spreads quickly. Even if you don’t have an oak tree in your yard, you can still feel the effects.

🏡 Tips to Reduce Exposure:

✔️ Check daily pollen counts
✔️ Keep windows closed on high pollen days
✔️ Shower and change clothes after being outdoors
✔️ Use HEPA filters in your home
✔️ Start allergy medications early (don’t wait until symptoms are severe!)

If over-the-counter medications aren’t helping, we offer allergy testing and personalized treatment options for both kids and adults — including drops and other needle-free options.

Don’t let oak season keep you indoors — we’re here to help you breathe easier! 🌿

Kids & Severe Allergies: Know Your Emergency Epinephrine Options

For children at risk of anaphylaxis — a life-threatening allergic reaction — epinephrine is the first-line, must-have treatment. It needs to be used right away at the first sign of a severe reaction.

Here are the main options available by prescription in the U.S.:

✅ Auvi-Q
• Voice-guided auto-injector with step-by-step instructions
• Comes in age/weight-appropriate doses for infants, children, and adults
• Easy-to-carry design

✅ Neffy
• Needle-free, nasal spray epinephrine — ideal for kids who fear needles
• Approved for children above certain weight ranges (expanded pediatric dosing available)
• Comes as a two-pack (you should always have 2 doses on hand)

✅ EpiPen® and Authorized Generics
• Classic epinephrine auto-injector in Jr. and adult strengths
• Still widely prescribed and lifesaving

💡 Tips:
• Always carry two doses wherever your child goes.
• Use epinephrine at the first sign of severe reaction — don’t wait.
• Call 911 after administering epinephrine.

Talk with your child’s doctor or allergist about which device is right for your family and make an allergy action plan together. 💙
