SURPRISE! WAVES is proud to continue introducing our Faculty and Course line up in our 6th Big Reveal with another new presenter to us, Ken Bouvier, ECO, Paramedic, who serves as the Fire Chief at the Westwego, Louisiana Fire Department. He is an Executive Chief Officer, paramedic and professional speaker known both nationally and internationally. His Fire/EMS career began in 1975 as a volunteer firefighter who advanced through the ranks to become the Fire Chief for Monsanto where he served 37 years.

Coincidingly, he worked for New Orleans EMS for 33 years and retired as Deputy Chief of Operations. While working at New Orleans EMS he commanded major New Orleans events including Mardi Gras, Super Bowls, hurricanes and managed the crews and appeared on the A&E Television Show NIGHTWATCH. Westwego Fire Department is a Class 2, Combination Department located directly across the Mississippi River from New Orleans.

Ken will be presenting, “No Sweet Tea for Me!” Basic Understanding of Diabetes. Diabetes refers to a group of diseases that affect the way your body uses blood glucose, commonly known as blood sugar. Glucose is the main source of energy for the cells that make up muscle and tissues. Glucose is your body’s main fuel! During this session we will review diabetes and how it affects patients differently. Maintaining your diabetes is a full-time responsibility. Diabetics who are non-compliant with their diet and medication often become patients and require Diabetic Emergency Care. Diabetes can lead to serious life-threatening complications. In children it is even more difficult because the child does not recognize signs and symptoms on coming. During this session we will review a unique presentation that will show how diabetes affects patients of all ages and will heavily focus on the obese patient and those that are bed bounded.

Chief Bouvier is just one of our 7 amazing instructors presenting 7.75 hrs of CEU in ONE day, Sat Mar 8, 2025, 8a-6p for only $70 by Zoom. (Hours are MA/ME approved/NREMT accepted)

Are there non-ischemic and non-arrhythmic complications that can have fatal consequences to patients in the recovery period? You bet! Join author Paul Werfel as he discusses these complications in a stimulating and interactive program that will discuss the causes, incidence, demographics, signs and symptoms and prehospital treatment of Left ventricular aneurysm, Left ventricular free wall rupture, Acute ventricular septal defect, Acute mitral regurgitation, Right ventricular MI, Pericarditis in a detailed look.

It's the big reveal part 3! WAVES is proud to introduce our Faculty and Course line up with our next presenter, Wes Ogilvie, who is returning from our first several years! Wes Ogilvie is a Texas licensed and nationally registered paramedic who happens to fund his volunteer EMS habit by practicing law within Texas state government. He has a bachelor of arts in government and sociology from the University of Texas, a masters of public administration from Texas State University, and a law degree from Texas Tech University. He is licensed by the State Bar of Texas. His volunteer EMS career has given him exposure to rural, suburban, and urban EMS throughout Texas as well as providing EMS education. He has particular interests in legal education for EMS and in volunteer EMS.

Wes will be presenting: The Most Dangerous Five Minutes of Your EMS Career. Many EMS providers fail to recognize the risk that comes with obtaining a refusal from a patient. Sometimes, EMS providers fail to even identify whether someone is a patient. As a practicing attorney and paramedic, Wes is repeatedly asked to review refusals and provide guidance and education. In this class, Wes will go over the risks involved in obtaining a refusal, as well as how to minimize the risks to you, your employer, your wallet, and your certification.

Wes is just one of our 7 amazing instructors presenting 7.75 hrs of CEU in ONE day, Sat Mar 8, 2025, 8a-6p for only $70!

It's the big reveal part 4! WAVES is proud to introduce our Faculty and Course line up with our next presenter, Martin Pelletier. Martin Pelletier is a third-year medical student at Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University (RFU) and a student researcher at the Resuscitation Institute under Dr. Raúl Gazmuri. Before coming to Chicago for his medical education, Martin worked as a paramedic
for both Brewster Ambulance in the Greater Boston Area and Canton Rescue, Inc. in Northern New York. He earned his BS in biology with a minor in chemistry from St. Lawrence University.
Martin is an active member of the National Association of EMS Physicians, the founder of the student organization EMS Advocacy; at RFU, and a co-instructor at Lutheran General Hospital’s Paramedic Program. He developed “The High-Performance Lab” for EMS at RFU: a day long continuing education symposium for paramedics involving human cadavers and other advanced simulation. Marty has also been published in JEMS and will be speaking about his article topic.

Marty will be presenting: Transport of the Stable Patient: Balancing EMS System and Patient Needs - For EMS in 2025, the adage of “transport to the closest appropriate emergency department” has expanded. For many EMS systems, patients take part in joint decision making with choice of destination when it comes to emergency rooms and alternative healthcare locations. In many cases, the geographically closest emergency department might not be the most ideal option for the patient. But in a world of limited EMS resources, to what extent should patients be able to choose their destination? In this lecture, we will examine practices in how EMS handles transport for medically stable patients who do not require a specialty center (e.g. a trauma center). We will weigh in on legal precedents and the four pillars of bioethics (autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice) and explore their application EMS system protocols and policies for stable patient destination options. Finally, we will discuss what EMTs and paramedics can do to optimize an individual patient’s autonomy while maintaining justice for all patients when it comes to EMS resource availability and destination choice.

Marty is just one of our 7 amazing instructors presenting 7.75 hrs of CEU in ONE day, Sat Mar 8, 2025, 8a-6p for only $70!
