2021 begins.
There is a self care exercise that is called Word of the Year. A person picks a word to hold onto for the year. To remind them of their goals, mission and purpose for the new year.
It is a tall order for me...years past and now. Whether it’s because I can’t remember it, I can’t decide on it, or I compare it to words others had chosen. Here I am an author and can’t decide or remember a word of choice. So this year I’m choosing a word a month. And not only that, it’s a word that will start with the same letter of the month.
My word is JUST.
As I understand mourning, and moving on. I say JUST.
JUST....get up.
JUST...keep checking in with the positive supportive people.
JUST...walk on the treadmill.
JUST ...keep writing.
JUST remember that my dad would want me to be happy.
JUST...breathe, cry, and rest in the fact that everyone mourns differently.
JUST...remember God provides strength, support, love, grace and hope...JUST do my part and see it.

I gave my dad the Colorado hat he asked for the last time I saw him...JUST in a different way.

Here is one of the reasons I write. I have had my share of rejections and negative opinions for my books, but what if I stopped? Here- this mum reached out a year ago - helped me know to keep going, you don’t know who you can help. If to serve just one more parent, caregiver, grandparent, child, then it can make a difference, even across the globe like for this child.
I am an occupational therapist not a speech therapist. I can’t tell you any treatment plans for speech. However this book was written from a mother’s heart not a therapist. It was to simply find a way my daughter could connect to the world.
My book- “Helping Santa Save Christmas” was to help answer the question of what does Santa do during a pandemic? And as a parent how can I explain all the deliveries to our house, and for the child to not open them.
I am looking forward to 2021 and to keep writing and creating. I hope you never let the haters or “negative Nellies” stop you from doing what is in your heart. We don’t know how long we are here, we have to use the gift of time to use what God has given us. We have to believe it CAN make a difference, a positive one!
