Saint Anne of Winona is the Winona areaâs leading and most requested choice for older adults and their families who desire a choice of continuum healthcare services and assistance. Our beginnings started with Saint Anne Hospice which opened in February, 1962. It was built and operated by the Sisters of Saint Francis from Rochester, Minnesota. The designation of Saint Anne Hospice signified the type of caring the Sisters wished to characterize in their work with the community. The name âhospiceâ from the Latin hospitium, meaning âhospitalityâ, was chosen because the word denotes warmth and friendliness and an atmosphere desired to be characteristic of Saint Anneâs.
In 1997, sponsorship of Saint Anneâs was transferred to the Benedictine Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery, Duluth, Minnesota, patrons of the Benedictine Health System. In 2002, the name of Saint Anne Hospice, Inc. was changed to Saint Anne of Winona to reflect more accurately the spectrum of services we provide. Those services now include Assisted Living and Memory Care Apartments, Rehabilitation Services, Skilled Nursing Care, Respite Care, Adult Day Care, and an established Nursing Assistant Training Program. Today, the philosophy of the Franciscans continues through the Gospel Values and the Benedictine Core Values of Hospitality, Stewardship, Respect and Justice.
