I’m sitting here reflecting … and just feeling incredibly grateful. ☺️

I spent over 35 years working in the conventional space.

And what I can tell you is this…

The education and training there is very different from what I later learned in functional medicine.

When I went on to complete two functional medicine certifications, including functional nutrition and blood chemistry while working on my doctorate in holistic medicine…

It was like a light turned on.💡

I began to truly understand the body.

The pathways.

The biochemistry.

How everything is connected at a cellular level.

Things that were never once discussed in the conventional model…
Like methylation ⛓️‍💥
Like nutrient deficiencies driving symptoms😵‍💫
Like how the body actually needs specific nutrients just to function properly ⚖️

Instead, what I saw for decades was this:
Symptom ➡️ medication
New symptom ➡️ another medication

But rarely…
“Why is this happening in the first place?” 🤔
And that question changes everything.

Because now… I can’t unsee what I’ve learned.

And when I hear what people have been through…
The endless testing 🩻
The prescriptions 💊
The years of not getting real answers 🫩
It’s maddening.

Not because people aren’t trying…
But because they were never shown where to look.

And something else I’ve come to realize…
In this space, we actually get to slow down. 🐌
We get to listen. 👂🏼
We get to spend time with our clients. ⏰
And sometimes… people just need to feel heard. ❤️

Because when you start looking at the root…

When you start supporting the body instead of just suppressing symptoms…

The outcomes are incredible ! 🙌🏼

I’ve had the privilege of working with people who have struggled for years… even decades…
Without answers.
And to watch their bodies respond when we finally address what’s actually going on…
That never gets old. ❤️

This is why I do what I do.

Because true wellness isn’t about chasing symptoms

It’s about understanding the body… and giving it what it needs to function the way it was designed to. ♥️

🚿 Last day of vacation… traveling and staying in a hotel… and this morning my mind did something interesting. 🤔

I was in the shower thinking:
“What if the power went out in this building right now? That would really stink while I’m in the shower.”

Then my brain kept going…
“Well it’s light outside now, so I could just open the bathroom door and get some light from the window in the room.”

Then another thought popped in:
“Ugh… I wouldn’t be able to blow dry my hair. And my hair without a blow dryer is a stick straight disaster.” 😆

And then…
The bathroom suddenly went dark. Dark!

The light is on a motion sensor… and it malfunctioned.

Pitch black shower. Exactly what I had just imagined.

When I got out, the sensor reset and the light popped right back on. Then I reached for the blow dryer… and boom… no blow dryer anywhere in the room. Of course. 😆

Apparently my thoughts didn’t just knock out the bathroom light… they took the blow dryer too. My husband ended up going downstairs and tracking one down for me anyway.

So now I’m sitting here wondering…
Was that just coincidence?
Or was it a reminder of something powerful?

Our thoughts shape our reality far more than we realize.

What we focus on…

What we rehearse in our mind…

What we expect to happen…

Sometimes those things have a funny way of showing up. 🫤

Maybe the lesson is simple:
Be mindful of what your mind is practicing.
Because your brain is always listening.

And sometimes… it takes you very literally. 😉

Curious what you think…

Coincidence or the power of the mind? 🧠

Your nervous system was designed to reset in nature. Even a brief pause like this can help calm stress and bring your body back to balance. 🩵

Are you tired of being tired?
Brain fog.
Low energy.
Poor sleep.
Digestive issues.
Weight that won’t budge.
And yet your labs keep coming back “normal.”
Here’s the truth:
“Normal” does not always mean optimal.
In functional wellness, we look deeper at the patterns behind your symptoms by evaluating things like nutrient deficiencies, blood sugar balance, gut health, inflammation, minerals, and stress hormones.
Your body often shows warning signs years before disease develops.
If you’ve been told everything looks “fine” but you still don’t feel like yourself, it might be time to take a deeper look.

Your body isn’t broken. It just needs the right support. 👏🏼

The biggest lie in healthcare might be:

“Your labs look normal.”

Normal ranges are based on population averages, not optimal health.

Functional lab analysis looks at patterns and optimal ranges so we can catch imbalances long before they turn into diagnoses. 💪🏼✨

With the clients permission to share…

Stop scrolling for a second… look what happened in just 8️⃣ weeks. 👀

These two photos are the same arm.

For years this person suffered with inflamed, painful skin while navigating the conventional system.

Creams.

Temporary fixes.

Band-aids.

No one asking the deeper question… why is the body inflamed in the first place?

Then we changed the terrain. 🙌🏼

In 8️⃣ weeks we focused on supporting the body instead of suppressing symptoms.

✨ Removed alcohol
✨ Removed refined sugars
✨ Shifted to a low glycemic, whole food approach
✨ Repleted nutrients based on lab deficiencies
✨ Hydrated consistently with minerals
✨ Used food as medicine

No magic pill.

No extreme protocol.

Just giving the body what it has been asking for. 🥩🥑🥦

When inflammation triggers are removed and nutrient deficiencies are corrected, the body often knows exactly how to start repairing itself. 🔬

This is what functional wellness looks like. 🤩

Not chasing symptoms… restoring the environment the body needs to heal. 🌱

Your labs 🩸show patterns years before disease appears.

The question is whether we choose to listen.

Food matters. 🧈🥥🫒🥚

Nutrients matter. 🥩🍏🥝

Hydration matters. 💦🧂

The body is always communicating. It knows how to heal when you give it the right raw ingredients! 🩵

Ever catch yourself craving ice or chewing it nonstop? 🧊
That habit is not random and it’s not just a quirk.

Craving and chewing ice is called pagophagia and it has a strong functional link to iron deficiency, specifically low ferritin which is your iron storage.

When ferritin drops, oxygen delivery to tissues drops too. The brain looks for stimulation to stay alert and chewing ice temporarily increases blood flow to the brain, making you feel more awake. Your body is basically waving a white flag saying we’re running low here. 🚩

This is why many people with low iron say they don’t just like ice, they need it.

Cups full.

Gas station ice.

Crunching all day.

Here’s the key part.

A standard iron level can look “normal” while ferritin is tanked. ⚠️ If ferritin is not checked, the root cause is missed.

Low ferritin can show up as fatigue, hair shedding, cold hands and feet, shortness of breath, restless legs, anxiety, poor exercise tolerance and yes ice cravings.

P.S. Chewing ice is rough on your body. It micro fractures enamel and dental work, stresses the jaw, and it can actually slow digestion by cooling the stomach and lowering stomach acid, which then further reduces mineral absorption including iron.

The very habit your body uses to cope can worsen the deficiency over time.

If ice is calling your name, don’t ignore it. Check ferritin. Listen to your body. It’s smarter than we give it credit for. 🧠🧊

You’re not crazy.

You’re just stuck in a system that waits for disease before it looks deeper. 🔍

Most people say they’re “fine.”

But inside… they’re exhausted from not having answers. 😞

They’ve been to the primary doctor.

Then the specialist.

Then another specialist.

More appointments.

More prescriptions.

More “your labs are normal.”

And yet… they still don’t feel well.

This is exactly the type of person who ends up in functional wellness.

Because we look at health differently. 🔬

Instead of waiting for disease to show up on paper, we look at patterns and trends in the labs long before things become diagnosable illness.

We ask different questions:

✨ Are nutrient deficiencies quietly driving symptoms?

✨ Are stress hormones chronically elevated?

✨ Is blood sugar swinging all day?

✨ Is digestion actually absorbing nutrients?

✨ Are hydration, sleep, and nervous system balance supporting the body?

Most conventional lab ranges are designed to detect disease.

Functional wellness looks for the early signals of imbalance.

Because symptoms are not random. Your body is always communicating. 💡

When we support the foundations of health…

🥗 nutrition

💧 hydration

😴 sleep

🧠 stress regulation

🦠 gut health

⚖️ nutrient balance

…the body has an incredible ability to rebalance itself. ⚖️

Many people just need someone willing to look deeper and connect the dots.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re being passed from specialist to specialist without answers… you are not alone.

And if you’re wondering whether a functional wellness approach might be the missing piece, you’re welcome to book a no charge consult with our office to see if we’re the right fit to help you move forward. 💛

Sometimes the first step is simply having someone finally listen and look deeper. ☺️
