'My real advice would be this: chop wood, lift hay bales; go back to old-school, natural methods of training. My trainer, Archie Moore, he told me to go away and chop trees for two weeks before a fight – and I did and it made all the difference in the world; all the difference to my life. I’d say doing things like that increases your punching power by at least 25 percent – forget lifting weights, that just makes you muscle-bound and takes away your speed. Weights are no good for you, that’s what I say. Go back to nature when you train, that’s what I did.'

Notice how he loads the outside rails on his base leg. Ultimately pivoting on what we’d call the green dot, not on the medial “ball of the foot.”

There are a lot of resources for learning how the human body was made to breathe.

I've personally suggested Wim Hof's techniques for general clientele for several years, as the combination of breathwork with cold exposure is a strong dynamic and was even hugely helpful in my year round motorcycle riding here in Seattle.

For athletes, I may also recommend PSE, or Power Speed Endurance as they focus more on the application of breathwork "gearing" toward sport-specific energy systems training in athletics. It gets a little complex for a post headline, but for some it may help to think Kreb's Cycle informed breathwork training.

I just got a copy of Nestor's "Breath" and will review shortly, but his interview on the Joe Rogan podcast was definitely informative. Here's a short clip.
