As a club that aims to support and uplift a marginalized community, it's so important that we take time to acknowledge the injustices to other marginalized groups, too.

We are deeply saddened by the lives lost--George Floyd, Ahmaud Arberry, Tony McDade, Breanna Taylor and countless others--and the injustice to the Black community as a whole. To those impacted by these injustices, we see you. To our African American women in Stem, we see you. We send our love to you.

In addition, as we acknowledge this systemic injustice, we need to make efforts against it. Learn about and donate to funds, sign petitions, contact government officials who perpatuate racial injustice (swipe to see resources for these) Appreciate the successes of Black scientists and researchers. In our bio, we've shared a list of 31 highly influential Black scientists in history. Take a moment to read some of their names, their successes and their stories. It's through necessary steps like these that we can begin to support, uplift and fight for the marginalized communities that need it. - Clark’s Women in Stem ❤️

Hi all! We hope you are doing well and staying safe. We want to share an amazing summer opportunity for students of all genders who belong to a marginalized group and pursue tech or engineering. This includes all women, LBTQIA students, students with disabilities, and men who belong to a marginalized group.

This free 6-week, fast-paced online program is an amazing opportunity and "accelerator for you as you plan your journey to thrive in the tech and engineering sectors." For students who might struggle to afford to attend this program (for example those who have difficult access to technology, or pay rent/bills), there are stipends available.

The application deadline is June 1st, and the program will be from July 6th through August 15. Please share this post with anyone you think could benefit from this program!!

Clark’s WIS is excited to invite you all to our event next week, Women in STEM & How They’ve Navigated Their Career Journeys!

Three accomplished STEM Clark alumni will be coming next Thurs. to share a dialogue about their Clark-to-career stories, answer any questions you have, and network and eat at the end! This is a great, informal opportunity for students to learn about their career path—and how their identities might influence that path—with people who’ve done it. All students are welcome.

Swipe to learn about the alumni coming, and how to sign up on HandShake! @ Clark University

🔭Last week, five of our members had the opportunity to attend the regional Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics at Yale University. 👩🏻‍🔬They had the opportunity to attend workshops about human rights and physics, intersectional identities, life as a graduate student and how bubbles can be used to study physics. 🧬🔬Attending conferences is a great opportunity to explore topics in your major (or a different major) and network with professors, professionals and students. 🦠🧫
Thank you to the physics department for this opportunity. cuwip .physics

As Clark University celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we want to bring awareness to racial underrepresentation in the sciences. Statistics show a clear underrepresentation of people of color in the STEM fields. From 1973 to 2012, 22,000 physics PhDs were awarded to white males in the US. During that same period of time, 2,400 were awarded to white women, 106 to Latina women and 66 to black women. Having more than one underrepresented identity has a great impact on higher education in the sciences. We hope and work to make STEM and academia a more inclusive environment for everyone. *original article from www.qz.com
