Have you ever wondered what the birth of Jesus was actually like?

As a doula and student-midwife, I read the Christmas story differently.
I wonder about Mary’s body, her labor, her support, and her trust in God.

Here are a few questions that stayed with me as I wrote this reflection:

• What was it like to travel so late in pregnancy?
• Who supported Mary during her labor?
• Did she feel afraid or steady in her faith?
• Was her birth calm and straightforward, the way God designed birth to be?
• Who cared for her as she healed and became a mother?

This carousel shares short excerpts from an article I wrote for my church magazine.
It is a quiet reflection on obedience, courage, and the holiness of birth.

✨ If you value faith centered birth support, I would love to walk with you in your journey.

As a doula and student-midwife, I spend a lot of time thinking about birth. And this year, the Lord brought my attention back to the birth of Jesus: not the nativity scene we picture, but the real birth Mary experienced.

The Bible gives us almost no details. So I used my God-given imagination and wrote a piece for my church, picturing Mary’s experience through the lens of birth work: what she felt, what she endured, and how she trusted God with her body and her baby.

Her obedience and courage still move me. If you’d like to read my reflections, I’m sharing the link in the comment below.

The holidays often come with a steady flow of visitors, and many people are eager to hold the new baby.
That can make it harder to keep your nursing rhythm — and that’s completely understandable.

Here are a few reminders for Thanksgiving that can help you protect your feeding relationship and your baby’s wellbeing:

✨ Keep your baby’s usual nursing pattern in mind.
Even during gatherings, your routine still matters.

✨ Watch for early hunger cues.
Responding promptly helps prevent overwhelm for both of you.

✨ Step away if your baby becomes overstimulated or needs to nurse.
A quiet room or a calm corner can make feeding easier.

✨ Use babywearing when possible.
It limits passing the baby around and helps maintain connection.

✨ Choose a low-distraction space for feeding.
A calmer environment supports better nursing sessions.

Staying close and nursing frequently also supports your baby’s immune system — your milk provides antibodies uniquely designed for them.

You are allowed to protect your rhythm.
You are allowed to say “not right now.”
And you are able to create a calm, comfortable space for both you and your baby during the holidays.

You are the best mother for your baby.
Your instincts are God-given.
And your baby’s need for closeness is not an inconvenience — it’s a blessing and a biological design.

Wishing you and your little one a peaceful, cozy, connected Thanksgiving. 🍂🤍

It makes me so happy when former clients reach out when they are pregnant again! It makes it even more special when they are planning a homebirth this time around, and, knowing that I have been apprenticing as a student-midwife, ask if I am ready to be their midwife.

The answer is not yet. I still have a way to go in my training. It's important to me to have REALLY solid skills by the time I start taking midwifery clients on my own. This certainly lights a fire under me, so hopefully, soon! Thank you for trusting me!
