Sports Recovery Basics
Athletic recovery comes from adequate nutrition prior and after a match. Lactic acid buildup, poor hydration and inadequate Phytonutrients (plant based nutrients) is a huge misunderstanding. The idea of recovery from fatigue, heat exhaustion, and muscle cramps and soreness stream from these factors.
1. Hydration must take place days prior to playing not just that morning.
2. Electrolytes are essential especially high intensity play.
3. A variety of Whole Foods such as those red, purple, blue and green fruits and veggies will promote anti inflammatory properties before and after matches. The damage to the muscles is inflammation and that is where you get soreness from. The cramps are because low potassium and sodium as micronutrients are not present in the body to deliver the recovery you need.
4. Pre match warm up with stretching muscles and post game cool down deliver further relief from soreness, eating bananas, berries, leafy greens at all stages will diminish these soreness issues.
5. Recovery meals should not be fried foods, sugary, processed and packaged foods, thus the soreness can be worsened.
