In celebration of World Art Day, we’re shining a light on the creativity that fills Camp Get-A-Way
with color, joy, and connection. From painting rocks and tie-dyeing shirts to designing beautiful
handmade bracelets, our campers get creative turning simple materials into meaningful
masterpieces.

At Camp Get-A-Way, arts & crafts are more than just fun activities — they’re moments of self-expression, confidence-building, and family bonding. We love watching our campers explore their creativity, support one another, and proudly share what they’ve made.

We’d like to give a special thank you to The Children’s Guild Foundation for their incredible support. Their generosity has helped fund scholarships for families in the Western Region and has partially supported our Wyoming County Skill Development Group.

Because of partners like them, more families have the opportunity to participate, learn, and grow
within our programs.

Hi everyone! I’m James, the Vice President of Camp-Get-Away.

I was first introduced to camp while working as a caseworker for an agency that sent families to
Camp-Get-Away. The camp invited our caseworkers to visit for a day so we could see the families we had referred—and I was hooked from day one.

I stayed because I truly love every aspect of camp (and maybe a little convincing from another
staff member). What really keeps me here is seeing the powerful impact Camp-Get-Away has
on entire families in such a short period of time. Each family arrives with more strength than they
realize, and this unique program truly works—for both kids and parents.

Favorite Camp Memory:
A large family arrived on Day 1 completely exhausted, hungry, overwhelmed, and miserable. By Day 3, they were running across an open field holding hands and singing together—straight out
of The Sound of Music.

Go-To Campfire Snack:
Anything our cook Terry makes!

Hidden Talent:
I can sleep through a storm.

Spirit-Animal Energy:
Definitely a bear—my name is pronounced “T-Bear,” after all.

We love our campers and their incredible creativity! 🎨

From painting and tie-dye to beads and bracelets, our campers are always turning imagination into beautiful works of art. Watching them create, express themselves, and have fun together is one of our favorite parts of camp.
