I have been having left shoulder pain for the last two weeks that has been limiting my ability to overhead press. Prior to this left shoulder pain, I started having right hip pain when overloading my back squat.

The first lesson here is to not just treat locally. The body works in miraculous systems across all three axes. This allows a hip issue to turn into a shoulder issue down the road. Second, dry needling can make measurable changes in a short period of time. This is a powerful tool to ask your local physical therapist about.

Alert 🚨 for all pitchers out there!

Weighted ball programs are increasing in popularity in youth baseball right now. The belief being that it helps increase Vlo. published this study in 2018 and its worth a look before starting a weighted ball program.

This was a 6 week training program, throwing 3 times per week, with balls ranging from 2-32 oz. Participants in the study ranged from 13-18 years old.

Results!! 🚨
3.3% increase in VLo
4.3 degree increase in external rotation
24% injury rate (38 participants) in the experiment group. 0% in the control group!

So what? It’s a small sample size you say. I’d say, is the 3.3% increase in velocity worth the risk? Throwing a baseball is already a violent motion, adding weight to the end of the lever arm only increases the torque on the elbow and shoulder. ⚾️
