Yoga With Laurel Certified Trauma Informed and Faith Based Yoga Instructor My name is Laurel Rourick. I am mama to twin 10 year old boys, and another little guy who’s 8.

I am an animal lover through and through - from Lizards to cats and dogs, my house is a full one. My heart bleeds for rescuing large breed dogs. My hubby and I have been married for 13 years. He and I are both First Responders - I was an EMT for nearly 6 years in Modesto. Our favorite hobbies to do together are weight lifting, cooking, and exploring nature with our 3 dogs and 3 sons. My formal Yoga training is in Trauma Informed and Faith Based Yoga. One of the reasons I was drawn to the practice of Yoga (and specifically the Trauma Informed Yoga world) was seeing first hand so much pain, disregulation, and stress I saw out in the field, working 911 calls. I felt so helpless after seeing so much hurt and brokenness. The pain I saw in my patients, and also in my coworkers and in myself after seeing folks on the worst day of their lives, day in and day out led me to seek out some small way I could give back to those hurting around me. As clichè as it sounds, in the process of wanting to help others through Yoga, Yoga changed my entire life. I am honored to have the opportunity to guide people into finding their own healing and inner peace through Yoga.

Post 1/2 for our Yoga Retreat 2021: This was such an amazing and relaxing and healing and fun experience! I am so thankful my sweet bestie came and got to experience this weekend with me! ♥️ It was a full 3 days of hiking, gourmet meals, sound baths, new friends, shopping, tattoos (🥰), lots of doggo petting and snuggling, yurt lunging, meditation, soul searching, self-loving, desert star gazing, and of course YOGA! Can’t wait to visit ranch again very soon. I love you Rachel! Thank you and your sweet fam and dogs and land for hosting and feeding and loving on all of us! And , thank you for making this weekend happen, I love you!

My little fam and I took Renly, one of our fur babies up to our favorite lake yesterday. She was a total peach and looked perfectly adorable in her booties and life jacket. Her smile though. 🥰 🌲 🐶

For those of you who are new to my page, thanks for the follow and WELCOME! Here’s a little bit about me…

My name is Laurel Rourick. My formal Yoga training is in Trauma Informed, Faith Based, and Kids Yoga. I am honored to have the opportunity to guide people into finding their own healing and inner peace through Yoga.
Though I enjoy teaching many different Yoga populations, my favorite is working with our younger generation. Getting to be a part of guiding kiddos into developing coping mechanisms and ways of handling the frustrations life throws at them in a healthy way lights my soul on fire.

The past two days have been heaven for me as my little family and I have packed up and headed out into the wild to find adventure and connection and some reprieve from the busyness of city living...and the nosiness of normal lives that work and school and social engagements invite...
Being a person who burns out very easily as I 100% wear my heart on my sleeve and connect so deeply on an emotional level with those around me...I need breaks from social environments and expectations regularly. It takes me regular and intentional periods of time to center my soul after phases of being very busy.
I certainly don’t recharge by being social. I recharge during times of solitude and reflection and by challenging myself to learn something new or develop a new skill.
I used to be so ashamed of this part of me...I felt obligated to apologize for it, or simply not listen to it. I’d experience exhaustion and burnout r e g u l a r l y. To be quite honest, I hated this “weakness” about myself...
But honestly it’s something I’ve come to listen to and respect now. I honor that need in my soul to retreat and be mindful in order to find grounding and inner peace and purpose.
I am so insanely blessed to have loved ones and friends who encourage me to respect my own boundaries and limitations. I feel so much more at peace and balanced when I care for my soul in the way it needs, instead of in the way I *think* I should.
To those of you experiencing burnout, here’s to you. My heart for you is that you would come to learn how you are wired and how you work best. Whether you recharge by being in a group, or in solitude. That you would feel safe enough and brave enough to lovingly enforce the boundaries you need. That you would no longer apologize for taking time to feed and nourish your soul in the exact way it needs, no matter what society claims you should do.
Here’s to honoring our bodies - our temples as sacred, and being willing to do what we need to do to be holistically healthy and balanced and fully engaged. 🤘🏼
