When I attend events, I always get the same questions. So I thought maybe it's time to discuss some things on my page to help people! I'm Shelby, I am an American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP) Holistic Health Practitioner. I attended my training through Trinity School Of Natural Health. This program is a stepping stone in the route to becoming a Naturopath, which is a long term goal of mine. As a holistic health practitioner, I chose to ask the question "why is this happening" not "what is the problem". An initial appointment with me is 2 hours long (People always say, "I wasn't sure how we were going to fill that time, but we did"). During those 2 hours we look at physical symptoms, the way you eat, digestion, hormones & cycles, stress & nervous system health, sleep, energy, overall lifestyle, emotional patterns, environmental & toxin exposure, you INTUITION (which is worth so much, we don't give intuition enough credit) and your lived experiences. People come to me when their labs are "normal" (notice the quotes because normal doesn't = optimal/functional) but they still feel awful, they've been told to wait it out, they've been given a medication they don't want to take, they don't feel heard or taken seriously, their body feels out of sync, or medications are making their symptoms worse rather than better. I also see people who are preparing themselves and/or their partner for pregnancy and just want to be sure they are doing everything they can to have a healthy chance of conception. Here's what I don't do:
-Diagnose or replace a medical provider (we can work cohesively)
-offer one-size-fits-all protocols
-ignore your intuition or lived experience
All of that to say during your appointment we will help you understand what your body is communicating, identify root contributors, support your body through food, lifestyle, herbs, & nervous system work, educate and empower you to make informed choices, and work alongside conventional care when needed. There's a misconception that holistic health providers and naturopaths only work with those who don't want to utilize the medical system. Far from the truth in my experience because we help everyone make better choices or fix the root cause. So all that to say, we aren't "anti-medicine" we are "Pro YOU" For many people this is the missing piece between "I'm fine on paper" and "I actually feel good"
