At Adams Lane Healthcare and Rehabilitation, we go the extra mile to Honor our Veterans. Upon admission we put a little Sign outside their door with their name and Military Branch on it. The purpose of these signs is so our Veterans can find each other.
Yesterday we witnessed these signs bring 2 Veterans together. As we were hanging Sam's sign outside his door, his neighbor next door Daniel (A new Admission) said "what are you hanging up there" and I explained what they were along with the purpose behind the signs. Daniel a Veterans himself wheels to Sam's door, knocks on the door, and goes in and the friendship began. Sam was talking about how he is a WW2 Veterans and Daniel said he is Vietnam Veterans and they began telling War Stories. Then men sat and talked for over an hour.
That is the reason behind our Veterans signs. Yes, as staff we listen to their stories, but we don't understand them like another Veterans do.
Adams Lane is the only nursing facility in Muskingum County with a long-term care contract with the VA.
