Falls are one of the most common causes of injury as we age, especially for women with osteoporosis or low bone density.

If you do fall, the way you get up matters.

Here is the safest approach I recommend to my patients:

✔ Stay calm and check for injuries
✔ Roll onto your side
✔ Get onto your hands and knees
✔ Crawl to a sturdy piece of furniture
✔ Use the furniture to push yourself up slowly
✔ Step forward with your stronger leg

And remember: If you feel pain, dizziness, or cannot get up safely, call for help.

If you’re dealing with joint pain, swelling in your feet, and what feels like poor circulation, I hear you — that combination can be uncomfortable, scary, and downright frustrating.

Yes, they can be connected. And I don’t want you to “wait it out.”

Unexplained swelling in the feet can sometimes be a sign of something bigger going on, other times it’s something more straightforward, but either way, it deserves a real assessment. Your joint pain may be related too, depending on what your doctor finds.

Here’s what I recommend:
✅ Start with your primary care doctor for an initial evaluation.
✅ If they feel it’s orthopedically related, they’ll refer you to the right specialist, and I’ll be glad to help guide the next steps.
