TARIFFS!
On Saturday September 20, 2025 we received a notice from our local U.S. Post Office stating that all packages shipping from the U.S. Virgin Islands to the United States are now subject to tariffs put in place by Executive Order # 14193.
Per Section 2.2 of US Postal Code, United States Citizens are not subject to tariffs. However, even though we are U.S. Citizens here, the U.S. Virgin Islands falls outside of the "Customs Zone" that the United States and Puerto Rico fall into. (You can read more about this here: Merchant Marine Act of 1920.) In addition, Executive Order # 14324 has ended the De Minimis Treatment which allowed purchases of $800 or less to enter the country without tariffs. (You can read more about EO #14324 here: End of De Minimis.) These tariffs have huge implications for many businesses within the U.S. Virgin Islands who ship customer purchases, and the tariffs must be paid to get the goods in the hands of customers.
Customs and Border Control is requiring us to use an online app to pay for the tariffs and associated fees before the U.S. Post Office will accept packages. There is a processing fee that must be paid to obtain a clearance code for each order,
My online orders are small and I’ve yet to delve into this confusion to see how it will affect my online customers but I’ll update as soon as I have more information.

NO TARIFFS - CREATED IN THE US VIRGIN ISLANDS!
Not that I didn’t jump to stock up on oils I order online before the tariffs took effect as they’re all imported and who knows how much they’ll go up in price. I buy only the best and work hard to keep my prices as low as possible but this perpetual uncertainty is very wearing to say the least.
All is fine for now on the medical front and I didn’t allow it to impede production anyway. We’ve had more rain than usual and of course the moringa trees have eagerly sopped up every drop, are out of control and a Big Hack is coming soon. The trees under normal circumstances grow 20+ feet a year so keeping them controlled is a never-ending task.
Smaller chops I can do myself but am so lucky to have an expanding battery-operated Ryobi lopper for bigger hacks and an awesome young(er) neighbour who can wield it every few months and get the big stuff down. Then comes the leaf-stripping and air-drying which after a while segues into the messy oil production job – never a dull moment!
Anyway, that’s the latest. Keeping fingers crossed that prices can stay the same for a while – MORINGA UP!
