The past couple of years have been very tough for many people economically.

1 in 5 kids do not get any Christmas gifts + 12% of families in the United States go without enough to eat while others have family dinners. I’m writing this post for this community to come together to help each other out.

1. If you + your family are in need this holiday please leave a comment with how someone can help you (example: a gift card for groceries, a small toy for your child, a payment for an electric bill, etc.)

Full disclosure: I actually didn’t even know these beliefs were controversial until I started sharing my work publicly. I realized that we have been so conditioned to see ourselves + mental health through a very specific lens that has been branded by the system.

Personally, I’m not trying to take down any system. I’m just trying to offer another way to view yourself, your systems, + your body from a holistic perspective.

A perspective that takes into account mind, body, + soul. A perspective that I’ve come to know is truth: we are our own best healers.

I created selfhealers.circle because when I started my healing journey, I didn’t want to be at bars. I wanted hike buddies. I wanted to talk about different things. I was looking for true community.

It’s been beautiful see people from all around the world, from all walks of life come together for our live events. Lifelong friendships + so many meaningful connections have been made. 𝐹𝑜𝓁𝓁𝑜𝓌 𝒻𝑜𝓇 𝓂𝑜𝓇𝑒 𝒽𝑒𝒶𝓁𝓉𝒽 𝓉𝒾𝓅𝓈 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝒸𝓇𝑒𝒶𝓉𝑒 𝒶 𝓃𝑒𝓌 𝓋𝑒𝓇𝓈𝒾𝑜𝓃 𝑜𝒻 𝓎𝑜𝓊𝓇𝓈𝑒𝓁𝒻 💟

(As always when I share about emotionally immature parents, I highly suggest the work of Dr Lindsay Gibson. Her book “adult children of emotionally immature parents” opened so much healing for me)

THINGS TO KNOW AS YOU HEAL FROM EMOTIONALLY IMMATURE PARENTS:

1. Your parents are human doing the best they can with the level of maturity they have.

2. Age doesn’t reflect emotional development. This will become more + more clear to you.

3. Boundaries are your friend. Prioritizing yourself, your other relationships, + overall self care can be scary especially with emotionally immature parents who have expectations of how you should show up in their lives. You can do difficult things.

4. You are an adult with agency. You can make your own choices. You know what’s best for you, even if it does serve what your parents want *for* you.

5. Understand your parents level of emotionally maturity + don’t look for what they cannot give you. This one is so tough— we want to be seen, heard, + appreciated by our parents on such a deep psychological + spiritual level. Work on finding support systems outside of your parents that can hold space for your experience. It’s unfair to place unrealistic expectations on them. And will set you up for suffering.

6. Find your “good” zone with an emotionally immature parent. Meaning, things you like to enjoy together + talk about. Appreciate those moments for what they are.

7. Don’t try to get a parent to see what they’re not willing to see. Sometimes we spend so much energy trying to change people around us. The best thing we can do is change the way we respond to the people around us. Notice as you interact differently, you have a different experience. Practice cultivating your own emotional maturity when around your parent.
