We are starting a Massachusetts residents-students mentorship program to foster student-resident relationships that help each other develop into successful anesthesiologists. It creates a safe environment for medical students to ask questions, collaborate on shared goals, and form significant relationships. Residents can share advice on residency applications, interviewing etc. If you are interested in participating, please look for a quick application form that we will send out soon!

***Hannenberg Resident Scholarship***

Education and growing the next generation of leaders in Anesthesiology is an important aspect of the MSA’s mission. Currently, the Massachusetts Society of Anesthesiologists is collecting applications to award its annual Alexander Hannenberg Scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to one resident member of the MSA who is interested in advocacy issues and wishes to attend the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Legislative Conference. The conference will be held from May 8-11, 2022, in Washington, DC. The scholarship will provide a maximum reimbursement of $1,500 for the resident to attend the conference. Also, it is the expectation that the awardee will attend all items listed on the agenda including the Congressional visits. Interested residents should send a copy of their CV along with a personal statement (letter of interest) discussing their reasons for wanting to attend the conference.

All applications must be received to the MSA office maanesthesiologsts@mms.org by Sunday, April 17th, 2022, at 11:59 p.m.

The American Society of Anesthesiologists® (ASA) is excited to announce that applications are now open for the 2022-2023 cycle of the Anesthesiology Policy Research Rotation in Political Affairs, also known as the “Resident Scholar Program.” The rotation is a paid, four‐week, ABA-approved rotation that allows resident physician anesthesiologists to experience the political, legislative, and regulatory factors that affect the delivery of patient care.

During the rotation, residents will gain a comprehensive understanding of health care politics and policy by experiencing the political environment first-hand, assisting in day‐to‐day advocacy activities, attending lobby events sponsored by ASA, creating research projects, and reporting on policy changes affecting the profession of anesthesiology.

Residents who will be in their PGY-4/CA-3 year and fellows during the 2022-2023 academic year are eligible to apply for the rotation.
