Want to know how to get past “FEAR OF FAILURE”?
..By having a goal worth failing for.

Most people think that they would have have a better life if they had less fear.

However,

Becoming "fearless" is actually impossible. It's learning to control your fear so it doesn't control you!

🏆That's "COURAGE"🏆.

You actually need fear to be courageous.🦍
If you are not afraid to do something, then courage is not required.

Only in moments of FEAR do you have the OPPORTUNITY to be courageous💪🏽

So next time you are afraid to do something, be grateful for that OPPORTUNITY to act courageously!

Because each time you act courageously, it becomes easier to do it the next time 😀.

However,

The opposite is also true.

Everytime you act like a little b*tch, it will be easier to be a little b*tch the next time🙁.

SLEEP IS YOUR BIGGEST WEAPON IN THE RECOVERY ARSENAL.

Maybe...MAYBE you should STOP trying to figure out how you can DO MORE and instead, lean on the understanding that your results will always be limited by the degree to which you can recruit motor units, stress fibers, and then RECOVER from that stimulus.

You can’t have a Porsche 911 Turbo S training schedule and a 1979 Gremlin recovery method.

No matter WHAT YOU THINK, the fact is YOU would be getting better results if you were getting more sleep.

Facts. Science. Physics. Ornaments.

‼️ Insufficient sleep undermines dietary efforts to reduce adiposity (2011) - More lean tissue loss in the 5.5 hour sleep compared to the 8.5 hour sleep groups

‼️ One night of sleep restriction following heavy exercise impairs 3-km cycling time-trial performance in the morning (2017) - A single night of sleep restriction following heavy exercise had marked consequences on 3-km TT performance the next morning. Because occasional sleep loss is likely, strategies to ameliorate the consequences of sleep loss on performance should be investigated.

‼️ Effects of two nights of sleep deprivation on executive function and central and peripheral fatigue during maximal voluntary contraction lasting 60s - (2021) - Lack of sleep causes central fatigue, which means that fewer high threshold motor units can be recruited, which means fewer muscle fibers will be activated to be stimulated to grow.

You don’t have to like this message or even agree with it. Because everyone is entitled to their opinions. Even if they don’t have merit or can be defended intelligently.

In good hypertrophy training....

- There's lots better options than squats and deadlifts
- There's no "must do" exercises for hypertrophy like there is for strength sports where those lifts are part of the competition.
- "Big compound barbell movements" are not actually very good choices, and are very inefficient compared to dumbbells, cables, and the right machines.
- ^ it doesn't mean they don't have a place...it just means that there's usually lots better options instead.
- Stressing a "lot of different muscles" (like with a conventional deadlift) is the opposite of what we want in GOOD hypertrophy movements
- Good hypertrophy training means we're picking movements that....
- Fit our structure
- Allow us to focus on the tissue being training
- Have a high degree of stability so we can focus on a high degree of effort/output
- By doing the above, we can now have a concentrated degree of mechanical tension on very specific fibers and divisions of a muscle....not spreading the tension around to 3,230 different muscles without ever really taxing the s**t out of what it is we're trying to train.

..By having a goal worth failing for.

Most people think that they would have have a better life if they had less fear.

However,

Training myths that need to die -

❌ Free weights are always better than machines -

Free weights and machines are JUST TOOLS. And there’s never one best training tool for all jobs. When it comes to good hypertrophy training, barbells actually have a very limited application when compared to good machine and cable options.

❌ Compound lifts are always best

If you're someone who just wants to hit a bunch of muscles all at once or just care about training the lift, then yes, "big compounds" are the way to go. The bad thing about that is that no one area gets a concentrated degree of tension on it to maximize mechanical tension for that area. The "big compounds" also have limiters in terms of output, and open up the door for compensating patters by more dominant muscle groups.

❌ Bro splits aren't for natties

Literally the landmark varied volume study still used to this day as a primary citation in comparing other volume studies for hypertrophy used a bro-split where Ostrowski used training subjects to get gains from. I'm pretty sure that these dudes weren't sauced to the gills and I consistently produce gains on top of gains using bro-splits and push-pull-leg splits (which is still a bro split to me because it's not full body). You split isn't relevant other than helping you to decide effective volume and degree of effort. You can make any split work, and work WELL, regardless of androgen status, with just about any split.

❌ Ass to grass squats is the only way -

Squat depth will always be relevant to your goals.

❌ Bands around your knees is more glutes -

I've made a million posts about this but there's literally not a good reason EVER to put a band around your knees for your glute work. Not one.

❌ Training research carries over into the real world -

Also another myth that has created so much confusion/misinterpretation of what is valuable/what is not in terms of application. In case you didn't know this, not every study is done in order to be applied to the real world. And even then, just because a study shows something doesn't even mean it's real world relevant.

I have some BAD NEWS 📰

Most people are setting goals the wrong way.❌

Most of us set goals that are “realistic” or goals that seem “attainable”. But here is the problem with that…

They usually mean “realistic” or “attainable” based on where you are now, instead of who you are capable of becoming.

➡️Your goals should be so big that they are
Impossible with your CURRENT capabilities.

Because a big goal like that will force you to improve and grow. 🌱

However, If you set a goal that you currently capable of, there will be no need for grow.

But more worse than that, Your current capabilities will place limitations on the size of the goal you set. ❌

I think it’s better to set HUGE goals, then focus on developing the skills required to accomplish them. 🏆

When I was growing up on the South Side of Chicago, it would have seemed “unrealistic” for me to set the goal to be where I am now.

Don’t let who you are defined who you can become 🙏🏾
