I had the honour of speaking at Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa's "Rise and Thrive" fundraising breakfast today.

Hosted once again by the most wonderful host, Komal Minhas, with opening remarks by Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, a message from the President of the Senators Community Foundation, Jacqueline Belsito and an inspirational success story by Dex.

Thank you YSB for the invitation and for what you do for the youth in our community! Thank you to everyone in the room for your compassion for others in our community.

Always awesome reconnecting with so many people from organizations providing such important services in and around the city. Great to see Soul Space Ottawa, Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa / Bureau des services à la jeunesse , Ashes to Rubies, Ottawa Inner City Health, CAPSA, Somerset West Community Health Centre, The Ottawa Mission, MAX Ottawa, and so many more organizations represented!

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day.

Initiated 24 years ago in Australia, at which time it was about overdoses and awareness. Now, it is more about the toxic drug poisonings which have caused the surge in opioid deaths and the eradication of the stigma surrounding drug use.

There are few who aren't aware of this crisis but there are many who still cast judgement!

Just one week from today, we will be at the Canadian Tribute to Human Rights monument to remember those who have been lost to the toxic drug crisis.

The International Overdose Awareness Day event takes place on Friday, August 29 from 11:30am to 1:00pm.
