i’ve been taking care of my dad for the last 14 years. he has alzheimer’s and if an emergency happened he wouldn’t be able to give EMS any info.

“our goal is to go out of business.”

that’s what one woman told us at the 2025 alzheimer’s walk in westchester county. she’s donating her brain to research in hopes that future families never have to face this disease.

this year, the tendercare team volunteered at the westchester county alz walk, walking side by side with caregivers, family members, and supporters.

every year, thousands gather to walk for alzheimer’s awareness, but the real victory would be an empty park.

we spent the morning listening to families who’ve lived this journey:

→ years of denial before acceptance
→ feeling completely alone
→ finally saying “alzheimer’s” out loud
→ finding strength in community

one family told us it took 10 years to say the word. another said it started when their teenage niece wrote, “we should walk for grandma.”

that simple message changed everything.

seeing those same families now wearing purple, raising funds, sharing stories, offering comfort to newcomers reminded us what courage looks like.

at tendercare, we build free caregiving tools for families like these, because we’ve been there.

we know the fear, the exhaustion, the hope that keeps you going and we know no family should have to do this alone.

Here’s what no one tells you about National Daughters Day: the adult daughters rarely get celebrated.

Yesterday my feed was filled with beautiful photos of little girls, seen through the eyes of parents who love them and care for them.

I reached for my own phone to post a picture of my three daughters, because I’ve had the honor of raising them.

But then I paused.

At tendercare, we work with thousands of daughters who weren’t part of the conversation yesterday.

When do we stop seeing women as daughters?

The title seems to fade once childhood ends, but the responsibility only grows.

These daughters are:

→ juggling their parents’ doctors’ appointments
→ leading in boardrooms
→ sitting by hospital bedsides

You don’t stop being a daughter when you grow up. If anything, you become a super daughter.

So in honor of National Daughters Day, I want to recognize the invisible army of millions of adult daughters (and sons) carrying their families forward.

You’re not unseen here, you’re celebrated.
