There is nothing more precious than holding your baby for the first time and working on the first latch!

Do you know baby’s first milk?

Colostrum is unique and specially tailored for the needs of your baby! It is a yellowish, thick fluid that is present for months before, and several days after birth (ready at around 16 to 18 weeks of pregnancy).

AND the primary role is a protective one! It also establishes the microbiome, and provides the need a nutrition to your baby. Oh, and, your baby only takes 1 to 2 teaspoons at a time, that is how tiny either tummy is!

It is high in protein and low in fat and sugar. It is filled with white blood cells that produce antibodies that strengthen your babies immune system, protecting them from infection.

It is a super food!

➡️ it coats, the babies intestines to protect against pathogens
➡️ it is a laxative to help baby pass their first p**p, meconium
➡️ it helps prevent jaundice

Eating plenty of protein before and during pregnancy is essential; protein is the building block for life!

Recent research indicates that intake during pregnancy should be more than what is currently recommended. Adequate amounts are needed for baby’s, growth and development, keeping blood sugars stable, increased satiety, and to support the many vascular changes that occur in pregnancy.

Not only can you get protein from animal sources, but also plant-based sources and powders as well!

Dietary fiber is so important to incorporate into our diet, and unfortunately many women do not consume enough, especially throughout their pregnancy. Fiber plays a critical role in slowing digestion, promoting fullness, providing energy for the gut microbiome and is essential for regular and healthy bowel movements!

Here are four ways you can increase your fiber intake!

🌟 incorporate more whole grains, versus refined grains.
🌟 have whole foods and vegetables, regularly with meals and snacks.
🌟add legumes to meals like beans, peas, lentils.
