Why clinical trials matter (A simple explanation)

Clinical trials are how we find out if new treatments actually work and if they’re safe for people.

1. Testing if treatments help
They help doctors and scientists see if a new medicine or therapy does what it’s supposed to do; like helping with pain, curing disease, or improving quality of life.

2. Making sure they’re safe
Before a treatment reaches the public, trials make sure it doesn’t cause serious side effects or harm. No one wants to take something that hasn’t been tested properly.

3. Getting official approval
Governments don’t allow new drugs to be sold until they pass clinical trials. These trials give the proof needed for approval.

4. Learning more about diseases
Trials teach us how diseases affect different people and what treatments work best for specific groups like children, seniors, or people with certain conditions.

5. Helping others, helping the future
By joining a trial, some patients get access to cutting-edge treatments early and they help improve medicine for future generations.

We're proud to support the people helping change and save lives.

💔 Alzheimer's: A pressing concern.

😔In the US, it ranks as the 6th leading cause of death, claiming the lives of 1 in 3 seniors annually, alongside other forms of dementia. Shockingly, it surpasses both breast and prostate cancers in terms of fatalities.

📈The reality: 3 million Americans grapple with Alzheimer's, and sadly, this number could triple by 2050.

🌍While a cure remains elusive, there's hope on the horizon. Across 19 countries, more than 400 active clinical studies are underway. Their aim? To conquer or at least slow down the onset of this devastating disease.

🍄Mushrooms for the win! 🙌

🍄A fascinating study by the University of Singapore tracked over 600 seniors aged 60+ for six years (2011-2017). The magic number? Munching on over 300 grams of cooked mushrooms weekly led to a whopping 50% lower likelihood of cognitive impairments. 🧠

🌱Lesson learned: Make mushrooms a tasty part of your diet and give your brain a boost!

🌐The International Clinical Trials Day?

🔬 On May 20, we send our gratitude to clinical trial participants and commemorate a groundbreaking moment in medical history. Back in 1747, Dr. James Lind embarked on an extraordinary journey.

🚢🍋 Dr. Lind's innovative spirit led him to test various treatments for scurvy on the crew of the British naval ship Salisbury. His meticulous trial revealed that lemons and oranges held the power to effectively treat the condition. This marked a pivotal step in medical research, as Dr. Lind's experiment is recognised as the first controlled clinical trial of the modern era.
