Fifteen years ago, I was given a provisional diagnosis for Multiple Sclerosis. I lived in Germany at the time and my now ex husband was in the Army and was deployed to Hungary. The doctors considered it serious enough that they told me to go to his Sergeant Major and have him come home from Hungary ASAP. They had him home within 24 hours.
I was having symptoms like numbness in my extremities, going blind in peripheral vision and even at one point completely blind for about a 20 min. time frame, headaches and more.
An MRI showed a little bit of plaque on my brain and this was what prompted the provisional diagnosis pending a spinal tap.
At the time, I was working out with a trainer, and I was drinking 1 to 2 diet sodas a day to avoid the calories in full sugar soda.
I have always been an avid reader and researcher so I began to research MS and the symptoms I was having and found that some people had experienced similar symptoms and then stopped using aspartame and had the symptoms cease. So, I stopped drinking the diet pop and within a week or so the symptoms went away.
Please do not think I am minimizing multiple sclerosis here as I realize that this is not always the case.
If you drink diet pop or have loved ones who drink diet pop, please know that my posting this link is purely out of love and concern for those I care about. I hope you will all read it and give it careful consideration.
Aspartame brand names include Nutrasweet®, Equal®, and Sugar Twin®. There has been a claim going around social media since 2015 that the name "aspartame" is being changed to "AminoSweet" on some food labels. This is a partial truth. This is a statement concerning that information: "AminoSweet aspartame products are for industrial use, therefore this brand name is not used for marketing consumer food products,” Kan Takahashi, a spokesperson for the Japanese Ajinomoto Company, told AFP in an email."
There have also been rumors that it is banned in some countries. Although there have been efforts to get it banned both in the US and abroad, that has not actually happened yet.
The use of aspartame is considered safe by governmental regulating authorities. I am just relating my personal experience. If you have been given a provisional or final diagnosis of MS and you use aspartame, it will not hurt anything to try eliminating it. It is not like it is an essential nutrient for your body right?
