Happy Tuesday! Did you know that it is National Grapefruit Month? Ruby red grapefruits are at their peak in the winter.
A few nutritional facts✨
- Extremely high in vitamin C and vitamin A which boosts your immune system
- High in lycopene, which gives the grapefruit its rich color and antioxidant properties
- Some studies have shown that it helps decrease triglycerides and LDL (bad cholesterol)
- Rich in potassium and fiber
- May aid in blood sugar management
- Just eating 1/2 of a ruby red grapefruit provides you with 64% DV of Vitamin C and 28% DV of Vitamin
One word of caution: if you are taking a prescription medication, check with your MD before consuming. Grapefruit can interact with the metabolism of certain drugs such as statins
Ways to eat ruby red grapefruits: slice it up and eat by itself or add to salads, to a salmon dish, on top of yogurt, in a cocktail, etc.
