Sometimes we need to see what is not working, what is not serving us and what is not true before we step into a better way of being. 🔎

As I reflect on the previous year I saw a lot of division, distraction and disillusionment driven by media. But I also saw some of the most courageous moves by people I haven’t even met.

If I’ve learned anything it is this: All voices must be heard. And I’m sure there will be many opportunities for that.

Welcoming 2022! Here’s to more peace, love, wellbeing, joy, freedom, discernment and truth. Oh and did I mention fun? Yeah more of that please 😇

Let’s talk tension

We all get it sometimes, maybe a lot of the time. Tension can creep in and cause TMJ pain (temporomandibular joints).

Did you know your tongue can get tense too? This can hinder our ability to fully use our voice. That is why I always stress (no pun intended) releasing tension through facial yoga and vocal yoga to better access your authentic voice.

When we release tension, we create space. When we create space, we create resonance and more free flow expression.

That’s where things get interesting.

As we say bye to 2021 and welcome in the New Year, I’d like to share an easy breathing practice you can do anytime.

I’ve used it for years with different qualities I felt were needed at different times in my life.

In the nose, out the nose with focused awareness:
Breathe in the quality of peace and exhale tension. Repeat 11 times (to release tension and prepare for the next step)
Breathe in quality of peace and focus on grace moving out into the world on the exhale. Repeat 11 times.

Singing engages a wide range of muscles, including those abs you’re looking to tone and your intercostal muscles that assist breathing.

Singing strengthens your breathing capacity, and so when it comes to your lungs, you can bet singing is a trustworthy ally.

Music helps heal mind, body, and spirit 🎼

Music is used as a natural therapy that treats several illnesses worldwide.

The vibrations created by the various musical notes correspond to the frequencies of the body's chakras. So, when the chakras are balanced or vibrating in tune with each other, the body can achieve optimal health and wellness.

That's why singing, dancing and listening to music can significantly impact the physical body and help to reduce pain, stress, or anxiety and result in other positive outcomes.

Ever wonder why sometimes you can sink into relaxation with someone’s voice and retract (cringe) with the sound of others?

It’s really all about the delicate balance between relaxation and tension within the voice. The tone and resonance will either invite someone or repel them. The voice is one of the most important factors in guided meditations. 🧘

When we listen to guided meditations, we want to be led into a state of relaxation that allows the parasympathetic nervous system to activate- which is our rest and digest response system.

The relaxed resonant voice in guided meditation helps the brain move from alert beta waves to deep relaxation found in alpha waves. Then we can deepen into the state of meditation found in theta waves.

A warm, well rounded vocal tone facilitates this process and enriches our guided meditation experience.
