Another day, another blatant inconsistency from the nation's largest OB-GYN professional organization.

“For years the FDA has failed to provide basic protections for women and girls to lessen the serious health risks of abortion drugs. The physicians of AAPLOG believe that women deserve better care than this. Reinstating the original safeguards, including requiring in-person medical care, is a step towards protecting women from these dangerous drugs.”

"Prior to the early nineteenth century, judges had generally interpreted the common law to allow for abortion prior to “quickening”—that is, the point at which a pregnant woman could feel her unborn child moving. But in the nineteenth century, a number of Protestant doctors convinced state legislatures that medical science proved that biological life began long before quickening, which meant, in their view, that abortion should be prohibited at any stage of fetal development. By the end of the nineteenth century, legislatures in nearly every state had enacted laws that allowed abortion only in cases in which the procedure was required to save a woman’s life."

From Defenders of the Unborn: The Pro-Life Movement Before Roe v Wade by Daniel K. Williams

We are proud to be a part of a nearly two-century-old legacy of promoting life-affirming medicine - and this continues to be strengthened by advancing medical science.

We are one week away from the March for Life, and this year we are asked to reflect on why we march.

For AAPLOG Action, we march for many reasons.
We are marching with and for our physician members who deserve the right to practice according to their conscience and uphold the Hippocratic Oath to do no harm and protect BOTH patients – mother and child.

We are also marching for our patients.

We march for the dignity of our preborn patients, who are brutally starved, dismembered, and/or poisoned without any pain medication or acknowledgment of the horror occurring.

And we march for our maternal patients. Women deserve better than induced abortion. We continue to see women die from drug-induced abortions, complications after induced abortion, and malpractice from doctors who are putting the abortion agenda ahead of their patients. It is time to stop pretending induced abortion is safe, and give women the real help they need when pregnant.

Why do you march?

Despite mainstream media reports to the contrary, ACOG blames pro-life laws for the negligence of hospital lawyers. These laws allow physicians to promptly intervene to treat serious pregnancy complications; several states have explicitly clarified this. ACOG's rhetoric blaming pro-life laws for pregnant women receiving inadequate care is false & dangerous.

A recent report from ProPublica found that physicians who have questions about their state's law often aren't getting satisfactory support from their hospitals. Doctors need organizations like ACOG to offer clarity. Instead, they are scaring doctors into falsely believing they cannot help women in need.

ACOG's misdirection is hurting physicians as well as our pregnant patients.

Women deserve better.

AAPLOG will continue to fight for clarity for physicians. Check out our new online medical education course, "Practicing Obstetrics in States with Abortion Regulations: What Clinicians Need to Know," here: https://meded.aaplog.org/

Congratulations to all who put their name on a ballot. It takes much courage to run a campaign and determination to persevere through adversity that comes with being a candidate.

Whether you went to bed with a victory or not, thank you for your willingness to serve "we the people."

As the chair of the board of AAPLOG Action, so proud of the 700+ physician colleagues of mine in Florida who fought to protect their maternal patients from the extreme amendment 4 ballot. Women's lives will be saved because of your bravery.

Your courage is contagious - waking the sleeping giant - the approximately 90% of OB/Gyns that do not perform abortions!

It is time to take back our profession! The direct and intentional killing of our fetal patients has never been and never will be health care!

Feel proud! You did your job!

It is time! Join AAPLOG Action physicians in protecting our patients as you vote today.
