“One of the biggest gifts we can give anyone is the gift of being heard.” -William Ury

We thank our dads for listening to us with their hearts and minds! Happy Father's Day! ❤️

By showing children we are listening, we send them the message: “I am here for you and you are important.” ❤️

Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.

👉Co-regulation: https://www.theottoolbox.com/co-regulation/

👉Co-regulation is the ability to regulate emotions and behaviors to soothe and manage stressing internal sensory input or external situations, with the support and direction of a connecting individual.

👉Co-regulation is nurturing connection of another individual that supports regulation needs through the use of strategies, tools, and calming techniques in order to self-soothe or respond in times of stress.

👉Co-regulation and self-regulation are part of the developmental process.

Be aware of the Expectation Gap: Believing children can have more self-regulation than they actually have developmentally. Remember, a child's ability for self-control fluctuates. Just because they can do (or handle) something some of the time, doesn't mean they can all of the time. Developmentally appropriate expectations mean less tension in the parent child relationship. Here’s a blog post that explains more. https://monadelahooke.com/1210-2/?fbclid=PAAabI2f5HDVewl7to3VmtUOLHxVfk-EjydlH4BYtqkZ1tVJfvF09qcm9WWQ4

A common reason people give for not seeking therapy is that, well, it’s basically like talking to a friend
