Reposting-
I encourage everyone to send your story or statement to Congress by December 8, 2025. Let Congress know about the importance of community living for people with disabilities.

The US Senate Special Committee on Aging is holding a hearing about the importance of community living for older adults and people with disabilities. The minority staff is collecting stories and statements about the importance of programs that allow people with disabilities and older adults to participate in their communities.

These include Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS), Centers for Independent Living (CILs), and other services and supports, such as those that help people thrive in places like education and work settings. The hearing will place a special focus on the importance of HCBS.

I encourage everyone to submit your story for the congressional record by sending an email hcbs@aging.senate.gov by Monday, December 8 COB. Please include your submission as a word document or PDF attachment. If you include your statement in the body of the email, we will convert it to a word document and submit it for the record.

If you have any questions or would like to attend the hearing, then please contact me at Grace_Hart@aging.senate.gov

Hi everyone -- It's been a minute. On Tuesday morning I tripped and fell in my apartment. I broke my left humorous bone, (upper arm), and cracked my left hip. Fun, right? I'll be in the hospital for a few days, and then probably a few weeks in a rehab

The fight doesn’t end here. No Kings was a beginning — a reminder that power belongs to the people, not to those who would rule over us. The work now is to stay ready, stay connected, and keep fighting back.

Call on Congress to Reverse Harmful Layoffs at the U.S. Department of Education
Key offices at the Department of Education, including the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA), the Office for Civil Rights (OCR), and the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE), have been significantly impacted by recent layoffs of almost all of their staff.

These offices are essential for enforcing and supporting critical laws such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Title IV of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

Without adequate staffing, the Department cannot fulfill its legal obligations to provide oversight, guidance, and support to states and schools. These layoffs directly threaten the implementation and enforcement of laws that protect access to a free appropriate public education and vocational rehabilitation services for youth and adults with disabilities.
