"What a liberation to realize that the "voice in my head" is not who I am. Who am I then? The one who sees that." —Eckhart Tolle

One of my favorite pages from the second book in the series by Charlie Mackesy about the Boy, the Horse, the Mole, and the Fox on the journey of life, "You will have critics," said the horse, "try not to be one of them."

When emotions run high, create a little distance. Say your name, and talk to yourself like someone you care about. This tiny shift in language can create a huge shift in perspective. Use it to cool emotional intensity and to get your clarity back.

I've heard it said that if you give your children a cookie to stop their temper tantrums, you are teaching them to throw another tantrum whenever they want a cookie. So, I reflected on how often adults treat themselves to a stiff drink or a cigarette or over-eating or binge-watching after a hard day, and how ANY day can then be called a "hard day" to justify indulgence (asking for a friend) 😁

Are we training ourselves to have hard days? At what point did we move the gauge on what counts as a "hard day?" And, if we keep having "hard days," is that why we think we have a "hard life?"

What would training yourself to have a glorious life look like? I used to work at a sandwich shop on the beach, where an elderly surfer show up each morning for a cup of coffee. I remember saying to him, "Have a good day!" To which he responded, "Young man, every day is a good day, some are just better!"

This topic may end up turning into one of my monthly blogs... we shall see..

True healthcare starts with addressing the root cause, not masking symptoms with prescriptions.

If your doctor isn’t asking about your diet, sleep, exercise, hydration, or stress, you’re not getting healthcare—you’re getting disease management.

It’s time to demand better. Share this with someone who needs to hear it today.

From a practical perspective, one of my teachers used to say that if a problem CAN be solved, then there is no reason to worry about it. And if the problem CAN'T be solved, then worrying about it will do no good.
Another one of my teachers had a different and show-stopping perspective on worrying. She said, "Worrying is praying for what you don't want."
Yikes! Think about that for a while..
But even at its most neutral state, worrying is just a waste of time. And since I'm a visual learner, I like this explanation the most: worrying is like a rocking chair—it gives you something to do, but it doesn't get you anywhere.
