A man is bitten by a snake and there is near-instant pain and swelling. The hallmarks of cytotoxic envenomation. On arrival at the hospital, the healthcare workers insert a canula to administer a drip with saline. They proceed by tying a string around the limb. This is by far the worst thing that can be done. It clearly illustrates that having snakebite treatment guidelines is near-meaningless if healthcare workers aren't properly trained in the assessment and treatment of snakebite!
The leg is black now, the next morning. Not from the envenomation, from the improvised tourniquet.
