A man is bitten by a snake and there is near-instant pain and swelling. The hallmarks of cytotoxic envenomation. On arrival at the hospital, the healthcare workers insert a canula to administer a drip with saline. They proceed by tying a string around the limb. This is by far the worst thing that can be done. It clearly illustrates that having snakebite treatment guidelines is near-meaningless if healthcare workers aren't properly trained in the assessment and treatment of snakebite!
The leg is black now, the next morning. Not from the envenomation, from the improvised tourniquet.

This is the Mozambique Spitting Cobra. Its venom destroys tissue, causing pain and swelling. It also relatively mild neurotoxiceffects such as dizzyness. The venom is potent and can kill humans, but only due to infections resulting from the effects of the venom. However, well-trained healthcare workers can save lives!
Will you help us to train our Zambian healthcare workers ?

This is the Bibron's Burrowing Asp. Its venom, when injected, causes local cell tissue damage, leading to intense pain and swelling at the bite site. In severe bites, its venom can also cause vaso-constriction, leading to blood pressure changes. Although the venom is not considered deadly to humans, it can lead to intense bodily damage, loss of mobility in hands and feet and even amputation if traditional remedies (especially tourniquets) are applied or medical care was incorrect. However, well-trained doctor can save limbs! Snake Safety Zambia trains health care workers in snakebite treatment.
Will you help us to train our doctors?

This is the Black-necked SpittingCobra. Its venom, when injected, causes local cell tissue damage, keading to intense pain and swelling at the bite site. In severe bites, clotting factor X is affected, leading to the blood not clotting properly, resulting in internal bleeding. The venom also contains neurotoxins. The venom is potent and complex and can kill humans. However, well-trained doctor can save lives and limbs! Snake Safety Zambia trains health care workers in snakebite treatment.
