Thankful for all the support we’ve had in becoming parents! Kodi’s parents and my mom we’re with us for the first two months of Forrest’s life. This was such a blessing and a privilege to have help navigating our new roles, help around the house, and baby sitting when we needed a break. Moms are the best!! And shout out to for being an extremely helpful dad! I can’t imagine doing this by myself and have so much respect for all the moms who do. Family has taken on a new meaning this year and I’m loving it 🥰

My Breast Feeding Expectation VS Reality.

I’ve been learning about breast feeding since my first year of grad school in 2017. Since then I’ve interned in WIC offices, took more breast feeding courses, and felt pretty confident about it. But what I didn’t learn until the first week of Forest’s life is that every mom+baby has their own challenges/successes and it’s not as easy as it looks.

To summarize our first week…
Started with low supply➡️tried hand expressing and spoon feeding➡️wasn’t getting enough➡️supplemented with formula➡️trouble with latching➡️ tried a ni**le extractor ➡️ used a ni**le shield with syringe+tubing➡️used the electric breast pump to stimulate supply➡️milk came in like a waterfall➡️so much engorgment and pain, lots of Ibuprofen ➡️still using a ni**le shield to nurse➡️still pumping to relieve engorgment.

It’s been very involved but I’m grateful for all the little trinkets that assist with breastfeeding. Idk what I’d do without them!

We met with a lactation consultant the first week and are meeting with her again this week, I can hardly wait because I find so much value in our appointments! I’ve been told the first month is breast feeding bootcamp and I 💯agree!!

It’s my due date today! It’s crazy to reflect back on the journey my body has been on these past 40 weeks- it’s truly a miracle what the body can do!

I stopped working last week and have been home ‘trying’ to relax all week. But then my mom broke her wrist, got surgery, my in-laws came to town, and now we have a house full of people with multiple projects going on. Isn’t it funny how life happens like that? Despite the chaos, it’s been really nice having the extra help with the added work and being surrounded by family ❤️

We’re trying to remain patient while we anxiously await our son’s arrival! However, I’m finding this to be one of the hardest parts of pregnancy. I’m ready to not be pregnant anymore and we’re more than ready to meet him!
