Good Morning everyone. It's time again for Diabetes - Mob Perspective.

Regular readers of this weekly post will remember that diabetes is a condition where there is too much glucose in the blood. The body is an amazing machine. When the blood glucose levels are too high, the body tries whatever it can to get the level back to a healthy range. One of the ways the body decides to do this is by peeing the glucose out. This brings our glucose levels down but can become a bit inconvenient having to go to the toilet so often.

Good Morning everyone. It's time again for Diabetes - Mob Perspective.

Regular readers of this weekly post will remember that diabetes is a condition where there is too much glucose in the blood. High glucose levels in the blood happens when the body can’t produce enough insulin, or the insulin isn’t working properly. In many cases, your body will send you some signs that your blood glucose levels are high. One of these is being tired all the time. As we learnt in previous weeks, glucose is our body’s energy source. If glucose isn’t getting into our muscles and organs, we have no energy. That’s where our tiredness comes from.

Good Morning everyone. It's time again for Diabetes - Mob Perspective.

As we learnt three weeks ago, when a woman is pregnant, pregnancy hormones can affect how effective her insulin works and this may cause high blood glucose levels. High glucose levels can be harmful to the baby. With the help of her medical team, she will need to monitor her blood glucose levels multiple times a day and respond accordingly. She may need to stick to a strict diet, take oral medications, inject insulin or do all of these. But gestational diabetes often goes away once the baby is born.

Good Morning everyone. It's time again for Diabetes - Mob Perspective.

As we learnt last fortnight, people with type 2 diabetes get high blood glucose levels because their body can’t produce enough insulin, or the insulin isn’t working properly. When you’re first diagnosed with type 2, you might be able to manage your blood glucose levels by eating a balanced diet and by being active. We’ll post more about this in the next few weeks. After a while, the condition may change, and you may need to start taking or increase your medications. Medications work in different ways, but they all do their bit to either help the insulin do its job or increase the amount of insulin available and needed by your body.

Good Morning everyone. It's time again for Diabetes - Mob Perspective.

As we learnt last week, people with type 1 diabetes get high blood glucose levels because their body can’t make insulin. And as we learnt previously, insulin helps to move glucose out of the blood and into the muscles and organs for energy. So if your body can’t make insulin, you need to inject it to help the glucose move from the blood and into the muscles and organs. You’ll have to do this for the rest of your life. But as well as injecting insulin, there are other ways to live as healthy as you can. We’ll post about it more in the coming weeks but staying active and eating a balanced diet will help you live well.

Good Morning everyone. It's time again for Diabetes - Mob Perspective.

As we learnt last week, diabetes is a condition where there is too much glucose in the blood. High glucose levels in the blood happens when the body can’t produce enough insulin, or the insulin isn’t working properly. In a person who has type 1 diabetes, their body produces no insulin at all. They have to inject insulin to manage their blood glucose levels. In a person with type 2 diabetes, their body can’t produce enough insulin, or the insulin isn’t working properly. Sometimes they have to inject insulin too. In a woman who is pregnant, pregnancy hormones can affect how effective her insulin works and this may cause high blood glucose levels. If you have type 1 diabetes, you have it for life and you will need to inject insulin for the rest of your life. If you have type 2 diabetes, you have it for life and may use different ways to manage it. If a woman has gestational diabetes, it can often go away once the baby is born when there are no more pregnancy hormones being produced in her body.

Good Morning everyone. It's time again for Diabetes - Mob Perspective.

Diabetes is a condition where there is too much glucose in the blood. As we learnt last week, the carbohydrate foods we eat break down into glucose which is used by our muscles, organs and brain for energy. And insulin helps the glucose move out of the blood and into our muscles and organs. High glucose levels in the blood happens when the body can’t produce enough insulin, or the insulin isn’t working properly. When this continues to happen, that’s basically diabetes.
