It all began in nursing school, when Shaneice, RN, joined Hillcrest as a nurse extern. The complexity of the care and the warmth of the team made her decision easy — she knew she had found her place.

She officially began her career as a patient care tech on the GYN/oncology floor. With dedication, compassion, and a drive to grow, Shaneice advanced into her current role as a cardiac RN on the stepdown unit — a true reflection of the opportunities and support available at Hillcrest.

And the best part of her day? It’s the quiet moments.

“When a patient thanks me for taking good care of them. I always want to provide the best care I can, so it feels good when a patient validates your care.” And as a bonus, “My coworkers are pretty fun to be around as well.”

For Reagan, a Case Management Social Worker, Hillcrest was the perfect fit for her passion and expertise. “With my background working with infants and mothers, I knew Hillcrest was where I belonged,” she shared. The Peggy V. Helmerich Women’s Health Center and its Level III NICU offered the perfect environment to support families during some of their most vulnerable moments.

Reagan finds deep meaning in her work. “I love seeing a beautiful mother leave the hospital with her bundle of joy wrapped in her arms and knowing that our work here was done!” What truly sets Hillcrest apart from Reagan is the culture. “I love that Hillcrest is very diverse and welcomes all cultures to the team. We have a close-knit relationship with our coworkers and the unit floors.”

When compassionate care inspires the next generation of nurses, you get quality care year after year.

Elena, RN, visited Hillcrest South ICU when her grandmother was given a poor prognosis. “Every nurse and physician not only worked diligently to provide exceptional medical care,” she recalls, “but also made sure to include our family in her plan of care and comfort us through such a difficult period.”

That experience stayed with her when she decided to pursue nursing. “I often thought back to how compassionate, knowledgeable and hardworking those nurses were. Their dedication and kindness made such a frightening time easier to navigate, and I knew I wanted to provide that same sense of care and support for others.”

Elena found that opportunity at Hillcrest Hospital South through the Nurse Residency Program. “It provided me with a strong foundation and the reassurance I needed as a new graduate RN. It gave me the opportunity to connect with other nurses who were in the same stage of their career, which created a sense of community and support.”

She also found mentorship, “Experienced staff were always willing to share their knowledge. Having those relationships helped me feel more comfortable asking questions and learning from others.”

Zac, RN, Wound Care Coordinator, began his journey with Hillcrest Medical Center (HMC) as a student at Tulsa Community College, completing clinical rotations on our campus. After attending an informational session about career opportunities, he knew he’d found the right place.

“I fell in love with the team, the organization and the community we serve,” Zac shares. “The icing on the cake? My grandmother graduated from the HMC nursing program in 1968.”
