Women can face a lot when building towards success.

One of the biggest unseen hurdles women face are: BIAS.
Some of these biases include:
-unconscious bias
-perfomance bias
-Attribution bias
-likeability bias
-double discrimination
-affinity bias
-maternal bias

and so on..
(definitions available on instagram page)

How many of these biases do you think affect women in healthcare?
Especially in male dominated environments?

Medicine needs to change and the voice to guide it has to come from the people.

A lot of BIPOC population feels unheard by the medical community.

Let's change that.

Comment how you'd like to see medicine change and accommodate BIPOC better!

The first step to bridge the mistrust is to address the wrong done.

I've never understood what is so hard about understanding racism.
If you treat someone differently because of the color of their skin color, the language they speak or where they are from - that is your own bias and discrimination.

As long as we see people that are different from us as "them" and think of issues and problems as "their problems", we will never be able to fully see the roll we play by staying silent, let alone participation in discrimination and oppression.

I won't say more, since I'm not an expert in this topic. But for those who want to help and learn as I am, here are a few link that you can use to help.

Its not a matter of Politics. It's a matter of basic humanity.
Even if we don nothing else - we can still point out the racism we encounter in our own community. For example, if you see a Doctor treat a patient/colleague differently, not take them seriously or insert their own bias into the narrative, then point it out. In the research post for last week, I looked at how the language we use can set the precedence of how we treat our patients.

Change has to start with us.
