As many of you will be aware with the time of year and many of you being on exec committees yourselves, the time has come for me to handover the role of welfare officer into the safe and wonderful hands of Hana who will guide the role into the coming academic year. I cannot wait to see all the amazing things you do with welfare this coming year!
I would like to take this opportunity of handover to say a big thank you for all the supporters of Music Durham Welfare this year- from society engagement, our page top fans (I see you- thank you!), the wonderful current and incoming music durham exec for their continous support (and for creating the role ofc!), to the endurance of my close friends and family who have heard copious amounts of 'what snacks should I buy?', 'look at the at these free resources!', 'what do you think about this event/post/idea' and for always giving me an honest second opinion- it has been appreciated so so much!
I know for many this has been a very difficult year and my heart and empathy goes to you all- I hope the dark times pass soon. Despite the greater prominence of talk surrounding mental health in the current times, at any point in your life present or to come, please access support if times get overwhelming. There are always people that care even if they are not physically close or apparent who they may be at the current time. And most importantly, remember that your feelings are always valid, you are valued and you are heard. [Support lines below]
My ending words as welfare officer as the quote suggests kindness and emotion does not define or decrease your strength, perception is a powerful tool (and one you have control of) and life is a journey of growth.
Welfare love over n out xo
