Personal Leadership Driving Your Growth

In this midst of this pandemic we’re seeing unprecedented change take place, particularly in our work places. Businesses who hadn’t supported initiatives such as working from home are now accepting that employees can be even more efficient when doing so. So, there’s a significant shift occurring with regard to how we run our work / businesses.

However, there are also challenges with this as there can be a risk of overworking at home and of not taking the breaks we normally would at our work place. Therefore, your own Personal Leadership has a significant impact on how you manage all aspects of your life.

What is Personal Leadership?

Personal Leadership is the self-confident ability to crystallise your thinking and establish an exact direction for your own life. It’s also about committing yourself to moving in that direction and then to taking determined action to acquire, accomplish, or become whatever you identify as the ultimate goal in your own life.

Going back to the challenges we’ve all experienced during this pandemic;

o If you’re struggling with managing your time, assess where your time is going and think about how you can prioritise your work more efficiently so that you’re able to create a healthy work:life balance.

o Remote working can also be challenging when it comes to maintaining healthy working relationships with our colleagues so it’s also important to take the time to call, video chat and spend some time with them rather than just purely emails.

Fredrik Kristoffers, Founder of The New Leadership, who is an executive coach and specialist in leadership and personal development says, “For businesses, Personal Leadership is often the shift from a culture where everybody tries and struggle, to a strong and healthier culture where people:

1. Know their goals.

2. Have the tools to achieve them efficiently.

3. Can co-create with their teams and each other on a much deeper level to achieve change, wellbeing and results.

4. Can motivate themselves and others on the way.

“Personal Leadership affects your entire life - your workplace, family, community, health etcetera and, as the saying goes, ‘if you can lead yourself, you can lead others’. This is what makes leadership successful and in the workplace in particular, you are able to create efficiency in teams through trust and collaboration as well as increased financial returns and the ability to reach your goals.”

Developing Personal Leadership is an ongoing process which requires regular reflection and self-evaluation. With conviction and perseverance though you can develop the qualities of an effective personal leader to determine your life course and have a positive effect on those around you.

Strength Training Outdoors

One of the big health and wellness trends for 2021 is training outdoors so how do you strength train outdoors? We asked Ravi, our Founder and CEO, for his advice.

Ravi said, “The easiest and most convenient way to strength train outdoors is to use your own body weight for resistance. This is an effective type of strength training and a great addition to your fitness program. Body-weight training can be as effective as training with free weights or weight machines when done correctly.”

To use your body weight in strength training exercises try exercises such as;
o Squats
o Lunges
o Sit-ups
o Push-ups
o Pull-ups
o Planks
o Step-ups

Ravi adds, “Remember to keep movements smooth and controlled. Remember to strengthen the opposing muscles, such as the chest and back muscles, and always strive for muscle balance.

“Once you can easily do an exercise for one set of 12 to 15 repetitions, try alternative forms of the exercise to give you more resistance or challenge. For example, you might start out doing a wall push-up, if a classic push-up is difficult. For more of a challenge try a modified push-up. A modified push-up is similar to a classic push-up but you keep your knees on the ground during the exercise. Once you can comfortably do a modified push-up try doing a classic push-up.

“You can perform many different types of body-weight exercises to work all of the major muscle groups and you can do body-weight exercises anywhere, using no extra equipment, at no extra cost to you.”

One thing we do stress is remember to use proper form and technique throughout each body-weight exercise in order to get the most benefit from each exercise and to avoid injury. Also ensure that you take at least one day off between exercising each specific muscle group to give your muscles time to recover.

If we can help you with any advice further advice regarding strength training in the big outdoors you can book a FREE 30 minute consultation with us here: https://www.ravisumman.com/schedule

Has Mindfulness Truly Come into its Own in 2021?

Mindfulness has been talked about for a good few years now but really does seem to have, finally, come into its own this year. For those not in the know, mindfulness is a technique which involves making a particular effort to notice what's happening in the present moment in your mind, body and surroundings without judging anything.

Mindfulness can help you;

o Become more self-aware

o Feel calmer and less stressed

o Feel more able to choose how to respond to your thoughts and feelings

o Cope with difficult or unhelpful thoughts

o Be kinder towards yourself

As Ravi, our Founder and CEO, says, “Mindfulness is a skill and requires practice like any skill. Personally I find it enjoyable and rewarding and find that it brings additional peace into my life."

Here are Five Ways to Practice Mindfulness Right Now

1. Stop what you're doing and take a breath. Take a moment to notice the sensation of your breath

2. Put down your phone and allow yourself to be fully present in this exact moment

3. Do one thing at a time

4. Find mindful moments in everyday tasks

5. Notice the moves you already make

Can Competing Help You Train?

As many of you know Ravi, our Founder and CEO, competed in his first fitness and bodybuilding competition with FMC in the UK. He was humbled to have achieved FMC Pro Elite fitness status from that show. Whilst we fully appreciate that competing isn’t for everyone, we wanted to share with you some of the powerful benefits competing can bring to your training.

1. A recent US research study found that competition motivated participants to exercise overwhelmingly more than the control groups. In fact, attendance rates were 90% higher in the competition-motivated group than in the control groups who didn’t have a competition to work towards

2. Competition can also encourage you to push yourself harder. It creates a higher level of accountability and, in order to be successful, you need to very clearly identify both your goals and the strategy you’re going to use to accomplish them

Here are our top tips on how to use competitions to help you train.

Define Your Competition.. and it doesn’t need to be a professionally organised one. It could be a competition amongst your training friends or even against yourself where you aim to beat your Personal Best (PB).

Make a Plan
Signing up to a competition alone won’t help you achieve your goals. It’s imperative that you have a solid plan in place in order to reach them. Remember, whatever you’re competing for the goal is to use the competition to motivate yourself and as an opportunity to review your current training plan.

Incentivise Yourself
Choose whatever works for you. Is it a cheat meal, a new piece of kit or competing for a financial prize? Whatever it is make sure it really helps you to achieve your goals and win your competition!

Keep Your Workouts Fresh
In order to achieve new goals you’ll have to try new things. For example, to increase weight loss you may have to change your workout to a more cardio intensive one. Adding variety is an excellent way to challenge your body and get yourself out of a rut.

Track Your Progress
It’s easier to stick to lifestyle changes if you definitively know what works for you. Tracking your health, nutrition and fitness helps you make informed decisions about whether the steps you’re taking are helping you to get closer to your overall goals. It’s also very motivating to look back and have a clear picture of the progress you’ve made!

Why Eat Seeds…

Recently Ravi, our Founder and CEO, was asked why he included seeds in his diet. Did you know that seeds contain all the starting materials necessary to develop into complex plants and because of this they are extremely nutritious?

Seeds are great sources of fibre and vegetarian protein. They also contain healthy monounsaturated fats, polyunsaturated fats and many important vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. When consumed as part of a healthy diet seeds can help reduce blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure.

Seeds are extremely easy to add to salads, yogurt, oatmeal and smoothies and can be an easy way to add healthy nutrients to your diet. Here’s our list of our favourite six seeds that you can add to your diet;

1. Flaxseeds
Flaxseeds are an excellent source of fibre, omega-3 fats, lignans and other nutrients. A lot of evidence has shown they may reduce cholesterol, blood pressure and even the risk of cancer.

2. Chia Seeds
Chia seeds are a good source of omega-3 fats and are effective at lowering blood sugar and reducing risk factors for heart disease.

3. H**p Seeds
H**p seeds are a great source of protein and contain all the essential amino acids. H**p seed oil may help reduce symptoms of eczema and other chronic inflammatory conditions.

4. Sesame Seeds
Sesame seeds are a great source of lignans, which may help improve s*x hormone status for estrogen. Sesame seeds may also help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress.

5. Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin seeds and pumpkin seed oil are good sources of monounsaturated and omega-6 fats and may help improve heart health and symptoms of urinary disorders.

6. Sunflower Seeds
Sunflower seeds contain high levels of both monounsaturated and omega-6 fats and may help reduce inflammation and cholesterol levels.

Of course, please do remember, that if you have any medical concerns or queries do consult a medical practitioner. If we can help you with any advice regarding your health and wellness you can book a FREE 30 minute consultation with us here: https://www.ravisumman.com/schedule

Going for Gold!

Last week Ravi, our Founder and CEO, welcomed a new client to Ravi Summan Wellness. The gentleman is getting married in November of this year and consulted with Ravi because he wants to get in good shape for this most important of days.

In his mid-30’s we discussed his goals (reducing body fat, improving muscle tone and gaining strength), assessed where he is right now and agreed what time he could devote to his health, wellness and nutrition on a weekly basis. Together we agreed that our Gold Package provided the best fit for him. Our Gold Package gives him:

o 2 weekly sessions

o 1-2-1 training

o Weekly reviews to assess progress and continue to customise eating plans

When Ravi asked our client why he’d chosen Ravi Summan Wellness to work with he said, “It’s because you lead by example. You’re training, have competed naturally and are a scholar with real life experiences. You’re also a panel speaker, host on national television and speak on health, wellness and nutrition on an almost daily basis. You must be doing something right!”

Let’s get behind our newest client. With such a strong ‘why’ giving him focus and the support of Ravi we’re sure he’ll succeed!

If you would like to know more about our programmes and packages you can do so here: https://www.ravisumman.com/packages
